Have you heard of MyBakery?

We are a Non-Profit located in Jackson, Michigan. We were created from MyPlace Jackson in 2023 to help the young women who live there have a safe place to work that is trauma informed. We work hard to provide the young women in our community a stepping stone to help them prepare for future careers. We believe that one's perspective on work can dramatically impact prosperity and well-being over time. What happens on our life journey can affect our abilities to become or stay employed. Through working and training at MyBakery we seek to provide practical employment experience, training, and opportunities for certifications and apprenticeship in a safe, stable environment that enables the mitigation of trauma.

We work in a licensed kitchen at St. Johns Church on Mechanic Street. We sell weekly at the Grand Rivers Farmers Market in Downtown Jackson. We also can be spotted at other local events and available for catering orders. Contact us through Email or Messenger. You can donate through our website. Check out the Grand River Farmers Market feature, including a highlight of MyBakery Jackson 🍪🧇🥧

In the June issue, we celebrate the impact of retail spaces on the lives of a community! Our cover story highlights a couple with a vision for sharing their passions by creating a store that stirs shoppers’ imaginations. Incubation space made possible by the county helped that vision become a reality.

A different kind of incubator, in the form of a farmers market, strengthens locals in their first foray into the sales space or brings long-timers closer to their customers. We profile some of those energetic business owners in one of our feature stories.

Meanwhile, as we report in our third story, a Jackson-institution mall defies the odds, thriving as a whole-family destination in an era when shopping malls have succumbed to a retail shift that keeps many consumers at home, shopping from their smartphones.
