What's in the supply?

The dr*g supply continues to change. In addition to fentanyl, substances like xylazine and medetomidine are increasingly being identified in communities across the country.

Knowing what's in the supply can help people make informed decisions, recognize overdose risks, and respond more effectively in an emergency.

A few important reminders:

• Naloxone (Narcan) can reverse opioid overdoses involving fentanyl.
• Naloxone does NOT reverse xylazine or medetomidine, but it should still be administered if an opioid overdose is suspected because fentanyl is often present.
• Overdoses involving xylazine or medetomidine may last longer and require additional support, including rescue breathing and calling 911.

Knowledge saves lives. Compassion saves lives. Harm reduction saves lives.

🥵 Heat Can Be Dangerous. Harm Reduction Saves Lives.

With a heat advisory in effect, it's important to take extra precautions—especially for people who are spending time outdoors, working outside, unhoused, older adults, people with chronic health conditions, and people who use substances.

☀️ Heat Harm Reduction Tips: 💧 Drink water regularly, even if you don't feel thirsty. 🧂 Replace electrolytes when possible. 🌳 Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning. 👕 Wear loose, light-colored clothing. 🧢 Protect your head and skin from direct sun exposure. 🚫 Avoid leaving people, pets, or supplies in hot vehicles. 👥 Check on friends, neighbors, and community members who may be struggling in the heat.

Substances such as alcohol, stimulants, and some medications can increase the risk of dehydration, overheating, and heat-related illness.

If you're using, try to stay hydrated, avoid using alone when possible, and pay attention to signs that your body is overheating.

⚠️ Warning Signs of Heat Illness: • Dizziness or fainting • Headache • Nausea or vomiting • Rapid heartbeat • Confusion or unusual behavior • Hot, dry skin or excessive sweating

If someone becomes confused, loses consciousness, has a seizure, or stops responding, call 911 immediately.

Harm reduction means meeting people where they are and helping them stay alive and as safe as possible.

A bottle of water, a cool place to rest, and checking on someone can make a bigger difference than you think.

Stay safe, stay hydrated, and take care of each other.

Sexual health is harm reduction.

At Home of New Vision Harm Reduction, we believe everyone deserves access to tools, information, and services that support their health and well-being.. without judgment.

Our program promotes s*xual health by providing safer s*x supplies, education, referrals to care, and opportunities for testing. We currently offer rapid Hepatitis C testing in both Jackson and Washtenaw Counties, and rapid HIV testing in Jackson County, helping people learn their status and connect to care when needed.

We also recognize that s*x workers are valuable members of our communities who deserve dignity, respect, and access to healthcare and support.

Harm reduction means meeting people where they are, respecting their autonomy, and helping reduce risk while increasing access to resources.

Whether someone is seeking s*xual health services, harm reduction supplies, healthcare connections, or simply a supportive conversation, we are here to help.

Because everyone deserves access to care, compassion, and evidence-based support.

🌈 Happy Pride Month! 🌈

This month, we celebrate the strength, resilience, joy, and diversity of LGBTQ+ communities.

At Home of New Vision Harm Reduction, we believe everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion. We are committed to creating safer, more welcoming spaces where people can access support, resources, and care without judgment.

Pride is a celebration, but it is also a reminder that equity, inclusion, and belonging matter every day of the year.

To our LGBTQ+ community members, partners, advocates, and friends: we see you, we value you, and we are proud to stand alongside you.

Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈💜

💡 Did you know?

Harm Reduction is more than you might expect...

We also offer personal care items like:

🧴 shampoo and body wash
🪥 toothbrushes and toothpaste
🧴 lotion
🧼 deodorant

And during Michigan winters, we also provide warming supplies like:

🧣 beanies, gloves, and socks
🔥 hand warmers
🛟 emergency blankets
🧺 throw blankets

Sometimes harm reduction looks like a warm pair of socks.
Sometimes it looks like a blanket.
Sometimes it looks like holding space for people to feel seen and heard.

Because people matter.
And because everyone deserves care.......exactly as they are❤️
