Excerpt: In recent years, many churches have reevaluated their relationship with denominational affiliation and convention life. Some have reduced their participation. Others have withdrawn entirely. Still others remain nominally affiliated but largely disconnected from the collective work and witness of the denomination. Much of the distancing results from feelings of dissatisfaction with leadership, disappointment with the denomination’s impact or a general disinterest in the priorities set by the governing bodies. This has resulted in an ever decreasing number of churches and pastors in baptist convention life.
These trends raise an important question: What is lost when churches become isolated from the convention and from one another?
