This Inaugural Queens Ride is scheduled for September 20th. For any riders interested in participating, see details below.

Our inaugural bike tour is less than a month away!

Join me, New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, Transportation Alternatives and up to 2,000 fellow cyclists on Sunday, September 20 in seeing our borough in a way you never have before.

Ride Queens will start and end in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, with riders being able to choose to cycle along either a 12- or 25-mile loop through Central, Eastern and Northern Queens. And after the ride, there will be a post-event festival in the park with food, performances and more.

But you MUST register in advance in order to ride. You can register at the link below, or find more information at www.queensbp.nyc.gov/ridequeens

Quickie fixes like those at the boardwalk and others at our crumbling park are no long-term plan for addressing what ails us: under-investment made worse by the big sports arenas in that area bring traffic and wear and tear without investing in our park. Maybe the surrounding sports venues should also chip in and help maintain our borough's flagship park.

In many ways, the Passerelle Boardwalk extending from the Mets-Willets Point subway station toward Flushing Meadows Corona Park is symbolic of the issues facing the sprawling park it leads to.

It is definitely no secret that Flushing Meadows-Corona Park is the neglected gem in our borough. Our elected officials signed off on giving away 78 acres of our park to disgraced billionaire Steven Cohen on the idea that our borough will benefit from improvements to the park and nearby areas. Does that sound like a good plan?
