Today, we honor Juneteenth, a day marking the end of slavery in the United States and a celebration of freedom, resilience and hope.

Observed each year on June 19, Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when news of emancipation finally reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

As communities across the country gather to celebrate, we remember the importance of history, reflect on the ongoing pursuit of equality and equity, and honor the generations who have helped shape our nation.

Two brand new shows drop on Friday!

Start your weekend with Fridays in the Shoals from 7-9 am with our executive director Dr. Kix Patterson for what's going on around the Shoals and a great playlist of favorites.

Then, at noon tune in for The Analog Garage with Hunter Tinsley for a high-energy exploration of power pop, punk, alternative, and new wave-influenced rock from the late 1960s through the 1990s, featuring catchy hooks, deep cuts, and a special focus on Alabama artists and regional music history.

WOWL-FM is accepting community event announcements for our upcoming on-air and online community calendar.

Non-profit organizations, community groups, schools, charities, and public service organizations can submit events FREE of charge.

Concerts, fundraisers, festivals, club meetings, art events, local markets, church events, and more are welcome.

We’re also introducing an option for businesses and organizations with recurring events or ongoing community activities to receive calendar placement and regular on-air mentions through low-cost community support packages. Promote your event and support our mission, it’s a win-win!

The best part of community radio is opening the airwaves to volunteer hosts who bring their own taste to a weekly show in a variety of genres.

Join our inaugural class of hosts by pitching a show.

While the Shoals is our format, we also open hours of programming for volunteer curators and DJs who want to create original programming for our station.
