After a hot and dry few months, the weather has started to cool down, summer vacations are over, and kids are going back to school. Now’s a great time to sign up for your fall races, so be sure to add the Parallel of Latitude 8-Hour Endurance Race & Relay to your schedule!

Join us on Saturday, September 26, 2026 for an 8-hour adventure along the scenic Jim Schug Trail starting at Dryden Lake Park. This event features a flat 3.45-mile out-and-back loop where you’ll complete as many loops as you can (or want!) between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Expect a fully stocked aid station, a fun, flexible, and social atmosphere, and the best music to amp you up for your next loop. There are no pace limits or cutoffs, and all abilities are welcome. Not sure you want to be out on the course for the whole 8 hours? Not a problem! Set a time, mileage, or fun goal instead and cheer on everyone else for the rest of the day.

To keep the fun going, the new features we added last year are coming back in 2026! The relay division (where participants can register in teams of 2 to 6 and take on the 8-hour challenge together), mini parallels of latitude in the last hour of the race to rack up even more mileage, and lifetime mileage recognition will continue to elevate your experience.

Registration is in advance only—no race-day sign-ups. Solo entry is $50 through midnight Tuesday, September 15, or $80 until registration closes. Relay team members pay $35 each (early), or $65 each closer to race day. Registration for both divisions closes at noon on Friday, September 25.

All solo finishers receive a custom concrete finisher stone while relay teams receive matching stones. Overall awards will be given in each gender category and to the top relay team for overall mileage. All stones will have the final mileage added to make it entirely unique to you or your team.

This year Parallel of Latitude has been chosen as an RRCA NY State Championship race. So in addition to the traditional PoL awards, RRCA awards will be given to male, female, and nonbinary open, and 40+, 50+, and 60+ winners.

Looking forward to seeing you in September!

If you miss running cross country from high school—or you’ve always wondered why some people love the sport so much—join the FLRC/High Noon team as we race in the Pete Glavin Cross Country (PGXC) series this fall. Our team has runners of ages 11-80+.

Check out the flyer below for essential details, or find more information on the forum https://forum.fingerlakesrunners.org/t/run-cross-country-with-flrc-high-noon-this-fall/10332 and the website https://fingerlakesrunners.org/pgxc-teams/

Please join us for fun, food, and friends! FLRC will be hosting the FLRC 2026 Annual Picnic from 6–9 PM on Thursday, September 17, at the Treman State Park North Shelter (the first one you get to when driving in). It’s an opportunity for the club to show our appreciation for our awesome board, race directors, volunteers, and members.

Carpool: https://www.groupcarpool.com/t/vab82o

You get to eat tasty food and socialize with your fellow runners (without getting all sweaty) while we share details about what the club is doing, what’s up with the board, check in on the Trail Circuit and the FLRC Challenge (both of which will still be underway, so no awards at this event), and more. We’ll have club swag for sale along with a swap table where you can give away running-related stuff and pick up things brought by others. Bring the whole family—it’s a kid-friendly event. (And if you have lawn games for the kids, bring them!)

We need to deliver a head count by September 3 so our caterer, Fittnell BBQ, can determine how much food to order. The picnic dinner is free, though there is a $10 NYS Parks parking fee—carpool to cut costs and combat climate change. We’ll also have beer and non-alcoholic beverages, along with dessert. There are bathrooms near the pavilion.

Please RSVP in Webscorer if you’re coming, with how many people will be in your party. We can use setup and breakdown help, plus assistance with a few other tasks—please sign up in Helper Helper.

Thanks for RSVPing soon, and we hope to see you there!

Not running? We’d love your help! If your friends or family are coming to watch, encourage them to join the fun by volunteering.

Building on last year’s successful session with over 25 people attending, Brooklyn Strength founder (and Ithaca summer runner) Cadence Dubus is back in town teaching her signature Fascia Release™ workshop on Saturday, 8/22, from 10 AM-11AM at Stewart Park. The workshop is free and open to all, but please register so we can get a head count. Meet at the bocce pits near the large pavilion; there’s plenty of parking nearby.

Register: https://www.webscorer.com/register?pid=1&raceid=442608
Location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/NkCT4Bnp883p7pn86

In this workshop, Cadence will tailor exercises to the specific needs of runners. We’ll lengthen tight hip flexors and soften tired hamstrings (you might even touch your toes by the end!). We’ll open the rib cage, an often neglected area for runners where much of our upper body power originates, and finish by gently focusing on our hard-working feet. You’ll learn easy techniques you can keep up with on your own, and get answers to nagging knee, ankle, and hip pain. By the end, you’ll have a better idea of how to relieve and prevent pain, injury, and chronic tightness so you can feel more flexible and agile going forward.

Wear comfortable clothes—running clothes are fine—and bring a foam roller. If you have a tennis ball, bring that too for your feet and other hard-to-reach areas. We’ll be outside on the grass, so a yoga mat might also be welcome.

Calling all runners, jumpers, and throwers! Due to the rescheduling and wet weather earlier this week, Trackapalooza registration is pretty low, and everything at a track meet is more fun with more competitors.

So recruit your friends and sign up today for Trackapalooza, FLRC’s summer track invitational. Registration closes on Friday at 5 PM and there is no day-of-meet registration. The meet will take place at Ithaca High School on Saturday, August 1, beginning at 9 AM.

FAQs & First-Timer Guide: https://fingerlakesrunners.org/flrc-racing-faqs-first-timer-guide/

Check the meet page for all the details, but here are the key bits:

*Events: Choose from six individual running events, ranging from the 100m to the 5000m, high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put, and discus. For experienced hurdlers, we’re adding the 100m hurdles for women and the 110m hurdles for men (thanks to the SOAR Running Club and the Groton Project Running Club for managing the field events). We’ll also have a 4x200m relay that you’ll sign up for at the meet.
*Volunteer: If you’re not running or only want to do one event, we need a few more field event helpers. Volunteers get a brightly colored T-shirt and post-meet ice cream. To volunteer, please sign up in Helper Helper.
*New to track? If you’ve never run a track meet before, or never run one of ours, check out our FLRC Racing: FAQs & First-Timer Guide. Additional questions? Just ask!

Looking forward to seeing lots of you at the Ithaca High School track on Saturday!

Our next trail race, Forge the Gorge 3 mile and 8 mile, will be held on Wednesday, August 5, at Fillmore Glen State Park. Please register soon so that we can plan for the post-race pizza party!

The “gorge-ous” course winds along wooded trails on the north and south rims of the Fillmore Glen Gorge, dropping into the gorge and crisscrossing the creek over a series of bridges. The trail race offers two distances: the 8-mile course includes two scenic, partially overlapping loops, whereas the 3-mile course peels off the long course halfway and heads straight to the finish.

Carpool: https://www.groupcarpool.com/t/3wuabi
FLRC Trail Circuit: https://fingerlakesrunners.org/flrc-trail-circuit/
FLRC Trail Circuit Leaderboard: https://trailcircuit.fingerlakesrunners.org/

The start times will be staggered, with the 8-milers starting at 6 PM and the 3-milers starting at 6:15 PM.

Both distances count toward the 2026 FLRC Trail Circuit standings—check the leaderboard to see where you stand!

We encourage carpooling to help fight climate change and save on the Fillmore Glen parking fees—register to drive or ride if you can.

We also need a few more volunteers! We’re especially looking for course marshals, aid station volunteers, and help at the registration table. If you’re not running—or are coming to cheer on a friend or family member—please sign up in Helper Helper. Thanks!
