Great news for the lead hazard control community!
HUD has announced $364.5 million in Lead Hazard Reduction grant funding to help communities reduce lead and other housing-related health hazards in homes built before 1978. State and local governments (including urban, suburban, and rural areas) are eligible to apply; the grants notice is at https://bit.ly/FR-6900-N-13. Applications are due no later than August 14th.
The Lead Hazard Reduction (LHR) Grant Program provides funding and technical assistance to help identify and fix lead-based paint hazards in eligible privately owned homes, whether they are owner-occupied or rental units.
Applicants can also request additional Healthy Homes Supplemental funding to identify and address other health and safety hazards in the same homes being treated for lead hazards.
Funding breakdown estimates:
• $120.1 million for Lead Hazard Reduction Demonstration (LHRD) grants for applicants in Highest Lead-Based Paint Abatement Needs areas,
• $203 million is for Lead-Based Paint Hazard Control (LBPHC) grants, for All Other Jurisdictions and Never-Before-Grantee applicants, and
• $41.4 million in Healthy Homes Supplemental funding for health hazard repairs.
HUD expects to make approximately 50 awards.
