TODAY (3/16) is Giving Day, and Watermargin is asking for your help!

Watermargin decided to participate in Giving Day because our roof is years overdue for a large capital replacement project. In efforts to find alternative ways of raising this money, such as through raises in board costs and loans, we have come to the conclusion that fundraising is going to serve as an essential component to being able to complete this project without undermining our Watermargin’s mission to be one of the only affordable housing options at Cornell. Like many, COVID-19 heavily impacted Watermargin’s ability to operate, but we are extremely grateful to have a house of 24 this year and 26 this coming year. However, with the roof project looming, we’ve needed to fix leaks and structural issues that impact the wellbeing of housemates - in order to keep the home safe and a place for growth for this capacity, we need your help.

Our roof is an essential component to the safety and well being of our house, whose mission has always been to be a haven for inclusion, education, and dialogue. Since our founding in 1948, this house has welcomed speakers like Malcolm X and Eleanor Roosevelt, and we’re continuing these meaningful conversations this semester with a series of 7 educational dialogues with academics and activists on topics ranging from food justice, labor organizing, housing rights, community agriculture, mediation/facilitation, and war/imperialism.

We would hugely appreciate any amount of support to help us continue our mission of educational, justice-oriented affordable housing as we approach our 75th year of striving towards these goals. Thank you so much!!!

Come join Watermargin Cooperative for a day of gardening, w**d identification and seasonal stewardship! We will be joined by the chair of Cornell’s School of Integrative Plant Science Soil and Crop Sciences, Dr. Antonio DiTommaso, for a discussion on w**d ID, prevention methods, and invasive species. Our program will then take us outside to the Watermargin garden where we will apply the discussed w**d ID, w**ding, till our soil, and plant mid-autumn seeds in the ground for late fall and early winter growth. Our garden event will be held rain or shine at 103 McGraw Place on October 15th at 3:30pm. Masks will be required while indoors. Tools, seeds, and pizza will be provided!

Good morning Watermarginals! Here's a chance to shed a spotlight on Watermargin!

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the CALS Alumni Association seek nominations to honor exceptional CALS alumni and faculty for their career success, service to Cornell and CALS, and active participation in other community volunteer activities by bestowing the CALS Outstanding Alumni and Faculty Awards.

Alumni and faculty are honored in four different categories:

- Outstanding Alumni Award

- Young Alumni Achievement Award (goes to a CALS alumnus under the age of 40)

- Outstanding Faculty Award

- Rising Star Faculty Award (goes to an assistant/associate professor)

Please help us to identify deserving nominees. The awards ceremony will be held on Friday, October 23, 2020.

Our kitchen is always stocked with veggies, canned goods, bread, milk, eggs and spices for your use anytime. The meal plan is a great way to learn about cooking/cleaning, meet new people, eat a home-cooked meal, and have a more personal relationship with food than just going to a dining hall!
