Mama's Comfort Camp and Mother Up

Mama's Comfort Camp and Mother Up A loving judgment-free mothering community where no one is dishing unsolicited advice: a refueling station and global village of moms helping each other.

Welcome to Mama's Comfort Camp, a loving support community for mothers from around the world and across the street. Our Motto: Mamas don't need more advice, we need more support! Our goal: to normalize motherhood struggles and inspire self-kindness throughout motherhood journey from new moms and grandmothers and moms in every stage in between. This is not a parenting forum. We don't come here to l

earn how to be better moms to our children, we come to be happier mamas. we do that by having a safe space to be seen, heard; we help each other feel less alone, less scared, less scarred. The support we get here has the beneficial side effect of allowing us to be stronger, which means we are better able to parent, but moms deserve support because the well being of mothers is reason enough. We focus on meeting needs rather than fulfilling expectations, and support is available 24/7/365. Privacy: Only members can post and read posts, nothing you'll post will show on your regular FB timeline. We have a unique group culture with clear boundaries that create the safety necessary for the honest sharing you'll see here. Naturally, our boundaries are not everybody’s cup of tea, so please read them before you ask to join. We don't come here to educate or evaluate or give advice unless it is specifically requested. When we comment on a post, our purpose is to support the mama who started the thread, not to "should" her into doing, thinking, or believing anything. Rule of thumb: if your comment is about you, start your own thread. If your comment is about the mama asking for support, make sure it is actually supportive for her. The result of these practices is one of the safest places on earth (and cyberspace). DO:
Yes to Guilt free-participation, only respond to other people when you genuinely want to. You don't ever have to post anything, it's okay if you just read. Take what works and leave the rest. Let us know if you are looking for advice. Respect everyone's choices. The only parenting choice we outright disagree with is corporal punishment. Brevity is overrated, we talk about nuanced stuff here, feel free to use all the words you need. Please Don't:
Don't dish unsolicited advice. Don't use this space for crisis management. Don't seek medical or legal advice. We delete posts about sales, promotions, affiliate links, giveaways, contests, etc. If you are in or near Ithaca, NY, join our local group for all Ithaca specific discussions and events:

Good morning folks. Admin here.

This is your Tuesday morning reminder to keep you comments relevant to weather conditions. Repeated Sarcastic comments such as, “well it’s winter and snowing so there will be snow on the road” are irrelevant and snarky and will get you removed from the group.

Thank you to everyone who is here to be productive, I deeply appreciate you.

We’re at the tail end of a squall warning, stay safe folks!

Bumper question, what’s your favorite winter food?

We're so grateful to Phoebe Brown and McKenzie Lauren Jones Lauren Jones for participating in the Helpfu Help panel discussion in tomorrow's event at the TCPL library in Downtown Ithaca. In this Community Cafe which is co-hosted by Mama's Comfort Camp and the MOMS +PLUS nursing program at Tompkins County Whole Health, we will be showing excerpts from the upcoming Helpful Help documentary film (filmed by Shira Evergreen and produced by Yael Daphna Saar).
Community members are invited to come and talk directly to maternal and child health providers in our community, raise concerns, make requests, and talk about how to make healthcare more accessible and inclusive.
Also there will be hot cocoa and cider in take-home mugs, and a mini workshop about ComFortitude: body-mind tools for emotional regulation that bring comfort and strength from the inside out. Workshop will go from 12:30-1pm, more details about it in the first comment below.
So if you're going to ChiliFest, come warm up with us at the Borg Warner room in the Tompkins County Library.

Maybe you’ve always felt like there’s a stage with your name on it. Or maybe you’re too shy for words (see what we did there?). If you identify as a mom and want to replace your inner critic with a hilarious comic, you belong with us.

Some more details:
Calling on all who would like to support mothers and families in a community in which all are seen, heard, and held. Join our guest, Yael Saar, Founder of the Mama’s Comfort Camp online peer support network, for a 30-minute conversation on how a moderated online forum can strengthen the fabric of our community. The Mama's Comfort Camp support network (a nonprofit project of the Center for Transformative Action) is celebrating a decade of support for mothers experiencing a wide array of parenting challenges, including guilt, shame, anxiety—the leading causes of postpartum depression/maternal su***de. The group normalizes the struggles of parenting and facilitate the asking (and receiving) of help, serving thousands of mothers in FREE moderated “Safe Spaces” available 24/7/365. The pandemic highlighted the need for effective and compassionate online communications forums for community connection, crisis prevention, and resource-sharing. Through these difficult times Mama's Comfort Camp has become an important local support structure, and they bring attention to a diverse array of community needs expressed by the thousands of Tompkins County mothers in their forums. Public service organizations and community businesses are invited to collaborate in supporting mothers and families in Tompkins County and beyond.
