Sign up for a free class to learn about preparing for emergencies!

With severe weather events becoming more frequent and more extreme, it is more important than ever that New Yorkers are prepared for disasters. The NY Citizen Preparedness Training Program teaches residents to have the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster, respond accordingly and recover as quickly as possible to normal conditions.

It’s a beautiful day here at the Earth Day Festival! Come on down to the Ithaca Commons, we’re here until 5 with fun family-friendly activities, tasty food by local vendors, sounds by WRFI, and the last Climate Wise Gardening talks at 2:30 in the CAP ArtSpace!

Earth Day Festival is TOMORROW, rain or shine, and we're ready for a fun day together on the Ithaca Commons from 12 to 5pm!

Cornell Cooperative Extension Tompkins County director, Cynthia Cave-Gaetani will kick it off at noon with an special introduction at the WRFI Community Radio tent, followed by Climate Wise Gardening speakers from 12:30 pm to 2 pm at the CAP ArtSpace.

Tabling organizations will be hosting a series of fun, family-friendly activities and discussions throughout the day. Stop by the DIY Upcycling and Clothing Swap to make wearable art or to fix your favorite outfit with mending tips and inspiration from Soil Factory, Ithaca College Eco Reps Team and our friends from the local punk scene.

Join CCE Tompkins Nutrition Educators Craig and Debbie for a taste of their Foods of the African Diaspora, featuring local vendors Maimouna's Cuisine: West Africa and Beyond, Authentic Jerk , and Mama Ria's Comfort Cuisine.

For public art enthusiast, Cinemapolis will be screening Thriving Futures Mural Initiative mini-films by Smart Energy Choices, Ithaca Murals, and Shira Golding Evergreen from 12:30pm to 2pm.

There will be a lot going on, and you'll also have a chance to purchase your ducks for the upcoming 4-H Duck Race happening next weekend in support of the Tompkins County 4-H Youth Development Program.

Also happening this Saturday near the Earth Day Festival will be mini-films at Cinemapolis for the Thriving Futures Mural Initiative!

🍿 FREE: Five “Thriving Futures” mini-films by Shira Evergreen 12:30-2pm Saturday April 18th at Cinemapolis!

What does a future look like where all people and living environments thrive? 🌿 In 2025, CCE Smart Energy Choices and Ithaca Murals facilitated 18 mural projects across the Southern Tier. 🎥 Come check them out! ❤️

Our friends at Bike Walk Tompkins and YMCA are performing a walkability (walking) audit in Lansing, and we need community volunteers!

Sign-up for the volunteer orientation where you will learn more about what a walking audit is and will schedule your volunteer shift (~ 1.5 hour commitment).

Connect with others who will be joining you on the audits Refreshments will be provided at the orientation and each volunteer session. All volunteers will receive $20 gift card to Ithaca Reuse Center after completing their final volunteer shift.

A walking audit is a way for community members to assess of how safe, accessible, and comfortable an area is for walking and share their recommendations with decision makers. The Bike Walk team and volunteers will be using materials provided by the AARP Walk Audit Tool Kit, ensuring that we can organized, concise data to form recommendations for improvements.

All volunteers for this project must come to the orientation on April 16th from 6-7:30pm at the YMCA (50 Graham Rd, Ithaca, NY). Click the button below to RSVP to the orientation and check out the graphic more details about routes and dates.
