Civic Ensemble’s 2026-2027 Theatrical Season Announcement has arrived 📣This summer, join us in a staged reading of the newly crafted play Cafe Utopia by Gwen Kingston in collaboration with Notch Theatre Company. Cafe Utopia is a dystopian comedy about work conditions, labor, and what it takes to stand up for one’s rights in the workplace. ☕

And then, coming Spring 2027 is our community-based play centered on themes of housing and housing insecurity in Tompkins County 🏠. This play is being built through interviews with community members and listening to their stories.

Congratulations to the creators/performers of the Youth Forum Theatre Troupe's "The Voices in My Head"! This fall, youth from across Tompkins County created this original short play about mental health, friendship, and what it means to believe in oneself, working to de-stigmatize mental health and create dialogue.

Happy snowy day ❄ and from Civic Ensemble!

This fall we're meeting and planning the next steps of creating a new community based play! We're exploring local stories around housing and housing insecurity. We're excited to share our process with you!

Local applied theatre artist Sarah Plotkin has been awarded the amazing Artist Support grant from New York State Council on the Arts to lead the development of this project in collaboration with our staff artists.

In 2026 we're looking forward to deep listening, theatre making, and sharing stories with you!

Please consider making a gift to Civic Ensemble today - supporting local artistry that uplifts stories missing from mainstream narratives and celebrating the creativity and strength of our local community. Click here to donate: https://www.givegab.com/donations/new?group_id=civic-ensemble
