Dorothy Cotton Institute

Dorothy Cotton Institute The Dorothy Cotton Institute honors and perpetuates the legacy of an important Civil Rights leader, Ms. Dorothy Cotton.

As an internationally renowned education and resource center, it develops, nurtures, and trains leaders for a global human rights movement; is building a network and community of civil and human rights leadership; and explores, shares, and promotes practices that transform individuals and communities, opening new pathways to peace, justice and healing. We envision the full realization of a just an

d peaceful beloved community in which all people understand, respect, protect and exercise full human rights. We believe that with a global community of human rights leadership, and a well-informed, inspired and motivated population, in the United States and elsewhere, the goal of human rights for all can be achieved.

It will be worthwhile. We'll have good snacks, lunch, and engaging speakers sharing case studies and their insightful experiences of city and state government, and of how community voices can raise issues and create policies. There will be time for reflection, small and large group discussion, and time for strategies and next steps. We also have a big community engagement tool kit with loads of links to movement builders and decision makers and steps and strategies from many successful organizing efforts.

Please join Friends of Alliance of Families for Justice to commemorate Black prisoners and Black freedom struggles with shared study and discussion at the Creative Hub this Wednesday, Aug. 27, 6-8pm. You don't need to bring anything but your interest. The photo in the announcement below is George Jackson, a revolutionary who was incarcerated in California prisons, has inspired resistance to racial and economic injustice and governmental repression across the country and beyond. News of his murder by prison guards on August 21, 1971, spread across the country and was one of the triggers for the Attica uprising in 1971. This legacy and more will be discussed on Aug. 27.
