Ithaca College Natural Lands Committee serves as an advisory body to the Vice President for Finance and Administration for the stewardship of Ithaca College’s natural areas. In addition, in neighboring Newfield we have the Bob Robinson Family Preserve and the Ithaca College Natural Resource Reserve. These natural lands are managed under the guidance of the Ithaca College Natural Lands (ICNL) Commi
ttee. The Stewards Program:
Being a steward is a rewarding job not only for the steward themselves but also for ICNL as we work to keep track of the ever changing land of South Hill. Stewards get the opportunity to develop a relationship with the land and be the eyes and ears for the committee. Stewards are required to visit their parcel every week and take a short walk around to become familiar enough with the land to notice any changes. Stewards can be anybody who is part of the Ithaca College community: students, faculty, staff, and administration. Apart from being a great way to take a break from busy college life, becoming a steward will allow you to learn about South Hill, relate to the land, and can also be a good resume builder. If you are a student or faculty member, you might even be interested in turning your knowledge of the land into a research project.
