We would like to congratulate our second 4-H Salute to Excellence award winner, Helen Rowlands, from the Niagara County 4-H Program! 🥳
Helen is being recognized as an Outstanding Lifetime Volunteer (10 or more years of service to 4-H).
Helen exemplifies the very best of 4‑H volunteerism through her innovation, leadership, and unwavering commitment to youth development. Since founding the Niagara County Working Goat Program in 2013, she has built a thriving, skills‑based, and inclusive opportunity from the ground up—transforming what was once viewed as a “fun event” into a respected educational program now recognized at the New York State Fair. Her belief that every youth deserves access to animal science led her to free‑lease her own goats, removing financial and logistical barriers for families—especially those in urban and suburban settings. Beyond one program, Helen has strengthened Public Presentations, expanded county participation, represented Niagara County 4‑H at Paper Clover drives, community events, and parades, and mentored emerging working‑goat programs across New York State. Her creativity, compassion, and work ethic consistently elevate youth voice, leadership, and mastery, making her a deeply deserving nominee.
Thank you Helen, for your dedication to 4-H! 🍀
