Fossil Free Tompkins

Fossil Free Tompkins Fossil Free Tompkins works to organize and amplify our County’s collective voice against fossil-fuel dependence.

- Our Work -

Fossil Free Tompkins works to organize and amplify our County’s collective voice against fossil-fuel dependence -- taking action at the local and state level to stop buildout of fracking and fossil-fuel infrastructure and to support the development of a local, sustainable energy economy.

- Stop the Cayuga Power Plant Bailout! -

Fossil Free Tompkins calls on Governor Cuomo to deny

the $145 million public bailout that will allow the Cayuga Power Plant to convert from burning coal to burning coal and fracked gas on the shores of Cayuga Lake. Instead of providing a massive subsidy to the dying fossil-fuel industry, we are calling on the Governor to provide direct transition assistance to the plant workers and our community and to approve transmission upgrades that will make the grid more energy efficient.

- Who We Are -

Tompkins County was the grassroots, scientific and legal epicenter of the anti-fracking movement in New York State. And now, even after the Governor has pledged to ban fracking in New York State, our work continues. From the Crestwood Storage facility on Seneca Lake to the Cayuga Power Plant, residents of Tompkins County are playing a major role in fighting the massive buildout of fracked gas infrastructure.
