The Liberty Hyde Bailey Center Project

Bailey Center Director John Linstrom recently had a chance to tour the grounds of the Bailey properties with Barb Martin, of Martin's Landscape Design and Park's Hill Poultry, who tended the properties as gardener for forty years after the death of Liberty Hyde Bailey's daughter Ethel (who lived there her whole adult life) in 1983 until 2024. Barb has an invaluable collection of photos of the property over those four decades, which she has agreed to share with the project, as well as her wealth of knowledge of the grounds and plantings.

Director John Linstrom will be at the Ithaca Is Books Festival today (Sunday) on the Commons, at the author tent in front of the History Center in Tompkins County, from 12-2, selling copies of his Centennial Edition of Bailey's environmental classic, The Holy Earth, featuring a beautiful foreword by the late, great Wendell Berry. Come say hi!
