7/8/2026 members of the Ithaca VFW #7805 and American Legion #334 showed respect for America’s 250th birthday by representing each post in Lansing, MI.

At the Capitol, there was a reading of the Declaration of Independence, which still reins true today the way it did back in 1776.

Freedom was earned. Freedom must be defended.

Since 1776, generations of Americans have answered the call to defend that freedom with their service and sacrifice.

🇺🇸 D-DAY – JUNE 6, 1944 🇺🇸

Eighty-two years ago, brave Americans and Allied forces faced impossible odds on the beaches of Normandy and helped turn the tide of World War II. Their courage, sacrifice, and love of country secured the freedoms we enjoy today.

Here at Ithaca VFW Post #7805, we are especially proud to honor our own 103-year-old WWII veteran, Ceo Bauer, whose generation answered the call when freedom was threatened. These heroes didn't ask for recognition — they answered duty's call and changed the course of history.

Today, we stand grateful for the Greatest Generation and all who have worn our nation's uniform.

May we never forget their sacrifice, their service, and the American spirit that carried them to victory.

The American Legion Department of Michigan is hosting a 250th Celebration of America in Lansing—and it’s a powerful way to honor the legacy of those who served.

Ceo Bauer continues to do to be an inspiring figure and leader for America and the post.

He gave a presentation to Shepherd High School, captivating students and staff with his passion and enthusiasm while presenting firsthand accounts of WWII.

On 5/20/2026, members of the American Legion Post #334 and V.F.W. Post #7805 honored “Old Glory” by retiring 415 flags.

We remind you that when a American flag is worn, tattered, or in any way not pristine, to retire the flag by dropping it off in the following flag receptacles in Ithaca:

• Sheriff’s Office
• Library

Coming soon there will be a refurbished flag box at Commission on Aging

The students were honored to visit with Mr. Bauer, a World War Two veteran who continues his lifelong work of educating the youth all while being 102 years young. He spoke of the war, his life, and offered advice to the younger generations. It was truly an honor to have him as a guest speaker!
