Congratulations to Matt Infante on reaching the rank of Eagle. Matthew's project was a memorial bench for the crew of Jolly 51, who perished in the 2018 helicopter crash over Iraq. The bench bears the names of crew members who were lost that day from the ANG 106th Rescue Wing, which is based out of Francis S. Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach. The green feet are a symbol of Air Force Rescue missions, and this bench is a reminder of the sacrifices of our military

It is an honor to be the recipient of this meaningful Eagle Scout project by Matthew Infante. Matthew is the son of a 106 Rescue Wing member who served with Christopher Raguso, one of the Jolly 51 crew members who perished in the 2018 helicopter crash over Iraq during Operation Inherent Resolve. The bench bears the names of 4 crew members who were lost that day from the ANG 106th Rescue Wing (Long Island Gabreski): Captain Christopher Raguso, Captain Andres O’Keefe, Staff Sgt. Dashan Briggs, and Captain Chris Zanetis, plus Captain Mark Weber, Sgt. Carl Enis, MSgt. William Posh. The green feet are a beloved symbol of Air Force Rescue missions, and this bench is a beautiful reminder of the sacrifices of our military.

Below is information regarding an upcoming Eagle Scout project fundraiser for one of our Scouts.

For his project, he’s building new osprey nesting platforms at Broad Cove Preserve in Aquebogue, helping protect these amazing birds and support local conservation efforts through the Peconic Land Trust.

To raise money for the project, he’s hosting a car wash on Saturday, September 6 from 9am to 1pm at 205 Smithtown Blvd in Nesconset. It’s $10 per car and all proceeds go directly toward materials for the nesting platforms.

If you can’t make it but want to support the project, you can prepay or donate here:

After almost a year of preparation, members of the Troop undertook one of their greatest adventures to date. On July 25th, they flew out to New Mexico for a 5 day backpacking trip at Philmont Scout Ranch. After a couple days of acclimating to the elevation in New Mexico, they started their trek. While it was not an easy trek, they all came out unscathed and for the better returning home on August 5th. Congratulations to all who completed this adventure that they will never forget.

In preparation for the Troop's backpacking adventure to Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM, we have been hiking the entire Paumanok Path. This trail runs from Rocky Point to Montauk Point State Park plus a separate backpacking trip to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. Well, this past weekend, they completed the Paumanok Path, which was done over the course of 10 separate hikes varying in length from 6 miles to 23 miles. Congrats to all of those who completed the full 135 miles of hiking.

Now, onto Philmont. More to follow.
