Today we brought creativity and science together as we made our very own egg carton caterpillars!

As we crafted, we paired our project with a story all about caterpillars, butterflies, and moths. The children were fascinated to learn that not all caterpillars become butterflies, some turn into moths! We explored the differences between them and noticed the amazing patterns and colors caterpillars use to blend in or stand out in nature.

It was such a fun way to spark curiosity, creativity, and conversation, proof that even simple materials can lead to BIG learning moments! 🦋

Our Exploration Station has come to life with all the sea treasures we’ve been discovering on our walks! 🌊🐚

The children have been especially curious about crabs, shells, sea glass, and other coastal finds, so we created a space where they can revisit, observe, and explore these items more closely. Through hands-on discovery, they’re asking questions, making connections, and deepening their understanding of sea life.

What started as simple walks has turned into meaningful exploration, sparking curiosity, creativity, and a love for the natural world around us. 💙

We’ve been soaking up all the beauty of spring at Islesboro Preschool 🌸

Today, the children explored painting with flowers, using petals, stems, and blossoms as their tools. What started as simple play turned into a rich sensory experience, full of creativity, curiosity, and connection to the natural world. The children experimented with colors, textures, and patterns while strengthening fine motor skills and expressing themselves in unique ways.

There’s something so special about slowing down, noticing the season, and letting nature inspire our learning. Spring is truly in full bloom here, and we’re loving every minute of it.

Today at preschool, the children made flower soup, and while it looked like simple, joyful play, there was so much learning happening beneath the surface.

As they played, the children were building important skills across many developmental areas. They practiced fine motor skills through picking petals and pouring water, explored early math concepts like measuring and volume, and strengthened language skills as they described their creations and shared ideas with friends. There was also rich imaginative play, cooperation, and problem-solving happening as they worked side by side.

It’s a great reminder that some of the most powerful learning moments happen when children are simply given the time, space, and materials to explore.

Today at preschool, we got our hands a little dirty in the best way! The children had so much fun digging in the soil to search for worms and observe them up close. We talked about where worms live, how they help our earth, and why they are such important little helpers in nature.

Inside, we continued our exploration by taking a closer look at bugs preserved in resin. The children were fascinated by the details, wings, legs, and tiny patterns, and loved comparing different insects.

Today we continue our study’s surrounding Earth Day with a game of Nature Bingo! As we explored outdoors, the children searched for signs of spring, leaves, birds, flowers, and more.

This playful activity supports observation skills, language development, early science concepts, and a deeper connection to the natural world.

It was a wonderful way to learn how we can care for our Earth while having fun together!

We’re so happy to be back together after April break! This week, we’re diving into learning about 🌎 Earth Day and exploring simple ways we can help take care of our planet.

Today, we became ocean protectors and worked on “sorting trash from our oceans,” learning how to keep our waters clean and safe for sea life

Did you know? Every year, millions of tons of plastic end up in our oceans, and it can take hundreds of years to break down. Small actions, like recycling and reducing waste, can make a big difference!

We’re excited to keep learning and growing as little Earth helpers all week long

We dove into some wonderfully messy creativity with our wet paper sculptures! 🎨

Using recycled paper, tissue paper, and egg cartons, the children explored how everyday materials can be transformed into something completely new. After soaking and squeezing the paper into soft pulp, they used their hands to shape and build free-form sculptures, strengthening fine motor skills while letting their imaginations lead the way.

There was lots of squishing, squeezing, and creating as they discovered different textures and how the material could be molded. We’ve set our sculptures out to dry, and we can’t wait to bring them to life with watercolor soon!

Who knew recycling could be this much fun? ♻️✨

Yesterday we blasted off into creativity 🚀✨

Our little learners explored space by creating their very own cotton round planets, using glitter glue and plenty of sparkle to design unique planets. Each one was completely different—just like the real universe—giving children a chance to express their creativity while learning about space.

Today, we took it one step further and used those planets to build our very own solar systems 🌎💫 Watching their individual creations come together into something bigger was such a special moment!

From swirling colors to shimmering rings, our classroom has been full of imagination, fine motor practice, and a whole galaxy of fun ✨

Rain didn’t slow us down today—it just added a splash of creativity! 🌧️🎨

We gathered rainwater and turned soggy chalk into our very own homemade chalk paint, exploring colors, textures, and a little messy fun along the way.

Who says rainy days have to keep us inside? We like to think we rain-vent the rules and make the most of every drop! 💧
