Community Festival This Saturday!

Join us for our 3rd annual wildlife festival this Saturday at the beautiful Harriman State Park of Idaho in Island Park! This family-friendly event will feature booths from local non-profits and agencies, fun outdoor games, delicious Mexican food Los Tacotes, a huge raffle, nature walks, and much more! Test your bear spray skills on the Idaho Fish and Game Upper Snake charging bear. Parking is $7 at Harriman State Park.

Bears

It is past time for the Fremont County Commissioners to pass a bear resistant garbage container/secure garbage storage ordinance for the Island Park area (Precinct 1). The City of Island Park has already passed and implemented such an ordinance. Owners of transient rentals are already required to provide bear resistant garbage containers to their clients. It is irresponsible not to pass this ordinance now. Responsible citizens and organizations have already provided all the language for the ordinance. The work is done and action is now needed. The ordinance could be implemented over multiple years and grants could be used to offset the costs for those needing help purchasing a container. Let’s help protect these majestic animals.

Conservationists threatened to sue on Friday in order to block a plan by U.S. wildlife managers that strips grizzly bears of federal protection, opening them to hunting around Yellowstone National Park.

A poignant anniversary - 100 years since the last known sighting of a grizzly in California, The State Senate wants to "raise awareness about the cost of losing grizzly bears and other elements of California's unique biodiversity."

In a unanimous decision, the California State Senate has declared 2024 as the "Year of the California Grizzly Bear," commemorating 100 years since the disappearance of the state's official animal.
