The City of Negaunee was recently awarded a $50K Pre-Development Accelerator Program (PDAP) grant by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). The PDAP grant is designed to assist local units of government to cover engineering costs associated with pre-development projects. No match is required.
Negaunee’s grant will be used to engineer infrastructure assets associated with the proposed MDOT roundabout project at the intersections of Teal Lake Avenue and US-41. These assets include water and sewer main updates that need to be addressed when the roundabout project takes place. In addition, the city will attempt to address pedestrian safety enhancements near this intersection.
Engineers will assess the feasibility of a pedestrian tunnel being installed under the railroad trestle that crosses over Teal Lake Avenue. “Current conditions for pedestrian access under this trestle are basic. Enhanced features, especial for those with mobility issues will greatly improve pedestrian safety”, said City Manager, Nate Heffron.
