A summer job is more than a paycheck, it’s often a young person’s first step toward independence, confidence, and career readiness.

Through hands-on experiences, students learn how to communicate, problem-solve, manage responsibility, and navigate the workplace, skills that last far beyond the summer season.

At Junior Achievement, we’re helping prepare students for those opportunities and the future ahead.

The connection between education and economic opportunity is evolving. Today, preparing students for what’s next takes more than academic achievement alone.

Early access to financial literacy, career-connected learning, and entrepreneurial experiences helps students build the confidence and real-world skills needed to navigate their futures and thrive in a changing workforce.

Our latest blog explores how these experiences help bridge the gap between classroom learning and long-term economic success.

Yesterday, Junior Achievement of the Upper Peninsula held its inaugural Girls' Dream Fair at Michigan Technological University. Hundreds of young girls were introduced to local women who worked in STEM fields and encouraged to follow their dreams into whatever career they choose in the future. With hands-on exercises, panels, and career booths, students left with a newfound passion for STEM and a broadened understanding of their opportunities.

TV6 & FOX UP, which brought its own Jennifer Perez to emcee the event, asked Lake Linden-Hubbell Public Schools Superintendent Emily Geiger what students can take away from this event.

“We want these young women to believe that they can. We want them to maybe find some mentors here where they can build connections and have women that they can look up to and see themselves in.”

Thank you to all of our sponsors, volunteers, schools, and participants for making this Girls' Dream Fair successful!
