It’s Financial Fact Friday, where the facts might surprise you.

What country would you think has the most millionaires? The answer isn’t surprising. The United States is the world’s largest economy and literally millions of millionaires live here. Number 2 might be a bit of a surprise. It’s China. Japan is third, while the UK and France are tied for 4th.

We’ve just wrapped our 6th year of financial empowerment at Basic Academy High School in Henderson, Nevada! 💸🎓 Thanks to a generous grant from MGM Resorts International and the support of US Government teachers, the CFE brought budgeting, saving, credit, and debt education to all 565 seniors—culminating in a high-energy Mad City Money simulation!

A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers from Rize Credit Union, Charles Schwab, City of Henderson Government, Credit Union 1, and Toyota Financial Savings Bank for making this real-world experience possible.

📣 What students said:
💬 “It helped me learn unexpected events can happen and may require more than expected.” – Jonash A.

Juneteenth is more than a date—it’s a reminder of how long justice can take, and how much work remains. On June 19, 1865, news of freedom reached the last enslaved African Americans in Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

At the Center for Financial Empowerment, we reflect on this day with reverence and responsibility. We believe that economic empowerment is a form of liberation.

Through financial education, we help young people navigate systems that weren’t built with everyone in mind—so they can build legacies, not just budgets.

🖤 We honor the past.
💚 We serve the present.
❤️ We invest in the future.

Here’s an opportunity to help local high school age teens and have a great time! We need volunteers for an upcoming event at Kaiser Permanente in Baldwin Park on June 27. These are financial literacy simulations where students get hands-on experiences with budgeting, spending and saving. They get a hint at what real world finances are like to manage. It’s a fun, impactful time and we’d love your help. Use the link to get involved.

The CFE brought our Mad City Money financial simulation to the Agassi Clubhouse of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada! Some 50 teens stepped into the real-world role of managing a family budget. They dealt with rent, credit, childcare, and lifestyle decisions. After the simulation, we hosted a discussion about smart money choices and financial independence.

Huge thanks to our CFE community volunteers and our friends at Rize Credit Union for bringing this experience to life as our Mad City salespeople!

📣 What participants are saying:
💬 “If I spend all my money on designer stuff, I run out of money faster—or go into debt.” – Stephanie R.
💬 “I learned that kids are expensive!” – Juliette
💬 “Credit can affect your ability to get housing.” – Theresa

This is how we empowered tomorrow. Get involved and help build a brighter future today!

For many of us, fear of failure can stop us in our tracks. It’s not easy to overcome. Risk-taking isn’t just for entrepreneurs, it starts in the classroom. For young learners, taking a risk might mean raising a hand, sharing a new idea, or trying something unfamiliar. These early moments of courage build the foundation for future experiences.
