What does Swan Valley do in October during this nice fall weather… we go on hikes, eat hot dogs, roast marshmallows, and have our local Forest Service Ranger come visit with our students about our public lands and the importance of maintaining them…. What else would we do for a field trip!!!

Our day was packed full of fun times that were had by all!

In the morning our students did pumpkin decorating, made window clings, and put together a super cool puzzle (more to come on that topic)!

Deltas, Valleys, Isthmuses, oh my!

3rd and 4th grade has been working on their landforms unit! They created their own islands and were challenged to include as many landforms as they could. Next they will use their creations to calculate scale and take “visitors” on efficient tours around their islands.

Swan Valley Fire District and the INL Fire Department came to visit our school yesterday! They brought a simulation training trailer to let the students have a more hands on assembly! The trailer has two rooms!

One is a kitchen with an oven, a microwave, a toaster, and a garbage can that all smoke with fake flames. The students had a fire extinguisher to put out the flames!

The other is a bedroom that has smoke and the door gets warm. In this room the students climbed out the window!

We are so fortunate to have these fire departments come out and talk to our students about fire safety and prevention!

1st and 2nd grade did a unit on birds today! They looked at characteristics of different birds and realized birds have different sized beaks so they tried picking up “food” with different sized beaks!
