Each year the Glendale Sportsmen's Club raises over 9000 trout to stock the area streams. The cost of raising these fish is entirely on the club’s shoulders. The Pennsylvania Fish Commission only provides the fingerlings to us each June to raise for the following year’s stockings. Proceeds from the following events are used to maintain the club grounds, building, hatchery, and to raise the fish.
Annually the Sunday before Memorial Day we hold our Children’s Fishing Derby. There are numerous prizes for the children. Thanks to the generosity of local businesses and individuals, we are able to hold this event with not cost to those participating. All children ages 2 through 15 are permitted to fish in this event. Two weeks following this event is the Adult Derby, also held annually. The cost is $10 with cash prizes being awarded to the top 5 anglers. Also in early summer, you will find us hosting and outing for local handicapped children. This past year’s event had 90 kids from local schools participating in this outing. Fishing equipment is provided for those that need it. Food and refreshments are also provided. It is such a joy to see the smile on these children’s faces. There is also an outing for the residents of the Veterans Home in Hollidaysburg. These guys really enjoy their day of fishing! For those who enjoy shooting sports, the club holds Shotgun Shoots on the third Sunday of the month, October through March. Shoots start at 2:00 PM and are held at the clubhouse. The cost is $15 for 10 rounds, 2 prizes per round. Shells are provided. Archery Meat Shoots are held twice a month, January through March. These shoots are held inside at the clubhouse. The cost is $15 for 10 rounds and there are 3 meat prizes awarded each round. Each January finds us starting our Youth Archery League. This league is open to children ages 5 through 15. There is no cost to participate. A limited number of bows and arrows are available to those that do not have their own. Shooting is held on Tuesday evenings and runs for 8 weeks. Our Adult Archery League also starts during January. The cost is $60 and this includes the range fee ($15) and individual membership ($10). You can shoot your score any time during the week and the league is held for 10 weeks. Outdoor 3D Archery Shoots are held monthly, April through September. We will be holding our 3nd Annual Bass Tournament on Labor Day weekend. This will be held at Glendale Lake. Look for upcoming information on this event. During the month of March and September on the last Sunday of the month we can be found making our delicious BBQ Chicken. Many come from far and wide to try our chicken. Tickets sold in advance.
