The Ziyad Cook Scholarship for Excellence and Community Leadership

In memory of Ziyad Cook, a beloved member of our community who tragically lost his life to gun violence, we propose the establishment of "The Ziyad Cook Scholarship for Excellence and Community Leadership."

This scholarship aims to support high school seniors at Irvington High School who demonstrate academic excellence, athletic participation in football, and a commitment to addressing the issues of gun violence within their community.

Eligibility Criteria
To honor Ziyad’s legacy, applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. Academic Achievement: Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to 4.0 scale.
2. Athletic Involvement: Applicants must be active members of the Irvington High School football team.

Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to community service, particularly in initiatives that promote gun violence awareness, prevention, and youth empowerment.

Scholarship Award:

The scholarship will award $2,000 each up to 5 qualifying senior’s for the 2025-2026 academic year, intended to assist with college tuition, fees, and related educational expenses.

Directions: Write a one-page essay discussing how awareness of gun violence can be increased and identifying preventive measures that can reduce youth violence. Email to [email protected]
