Our hearts are broken as we mourn the passing of Margie Stipes — a cherished friend, devoted community leader, passionate advocate for students and teachers, and the proud namesake of Stipes Elementary School. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to education touched countless lives across Irving, and her absence will be deeply felt throughout our community. 🤍
A proud Irving resident since 1955, Margie dedicated her life to serving her community and uplifting generations of students and families. She worked for 30 years at American Airlines, where she received the company’s prestigious Customer First Award, while also giving tirelessly to Irving schools and civic organizations.
Margie’s impact across Irving was extraordinary. She served on multiple bond program committees, the city’s Charter Review Committee, was president of the High School Booster Club, and was a longtime member of both the Keep Irving Beautiful Board and the Irving Schools Foundation Board of Directors. Her service earned countless honors, including the High Spirited Citizen Award, the Greater Irving Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award, the Irving Schools Foundation Legacy Award, multiple PTA service awards, and induction into the Irving Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.
Her greatest legacy, however, lives on in the students, teachers, hallways, and classrooms of John and Margie Stipes Elementary School — a place that proudly carries her name and reflects her unwavering belief in the power of education.
Her love for all students in Irving ISD will forever be remembered, and her legacy of learning is etched into the hearts of so many throughout our community.
We are holding her family, friends, former students, colleagues, and all who knew and loved her in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. 💙
