The Disaster Services Corporation (DSC) is a second-responder and a Catholic lay organization that provides person-to-person recovery services to families impacted by man-made and natural disasters across the United States. Hear about our story and how we got started here: http://goo.gl/y8NMeU

Disaster Services Corporation, St Vincent de Paul (DSC) is a Catholic lay organization that helps people

in situational poverty as a result of natural and man-made disasters to get their lives back in order. DSC facilitates change by integrating equity into all aspects of emergency management. Our focus is on humanity and our vision supports the empowerment of marginalized communities within all phases of the disaster management cycle. We support development and implementation of innovative community-based programs and adaptation projects to enhance resilience in diverse, vulnerable, and underserved communities. DSC is a national non-profit that is a sister company to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SVDP), led by CEO, Elizabeth Disco-Shearer. Elizabeth has been involved with SVDP disaster-related operations since 2005 and is a former director for Catholic Charities and executive director for SVDP Dallas. The program will continue to focus the Society’s efforts on the long-term case management needs of affected people after all of the first-responder agencies have departed. This differentiates DSC from the American Red Cross, FEMA, the Salvation Army and others, who take on immediate needs such as food, shelter, and clothing. DSC Functions:
•Deploys Regional Rapid Response Teams
•Supports Disaster Recovery Centers
•Represents DSC at local Multi Agency Resource Centers
•Aides with Hotel Stays and Temporary Housing Costs
•Provides Disaster Case Management to Impacted Families
•Contracts for State and Private DCM Training
•Assists with Long Term Recovery Efforts like Rebuilds and LTRCs
•Furnishes Homes Through the House in the Box® Program
•Established in Long Term Economic Recovery Programs

What does “home” mean after you’ve lost everything?

When disaster hits, many survivors find that while insurance may rebuild walls, it doesn’t restore life within those walls. House in a Box™, powered by SVdP’s Disaster Services Corporation, does just that. It delivers things like furniture, kitchenware, linens, and even vacuum cleaners to families’ homes after a disaster. Not only is their home restored, but also their sense of dignity, stability and hope.

Thanks to partnerships with Amazon, Walmart, and Vincentian volunteers across the U.S., over 2,100 families have already begun to rebuild their lives with House in a Box™ arriving at their doorsteps, often within 24 hours.

It’s not just a box. 📦 It’s a fresh start. 🌱
