Haggerty Art Village

Haggerty Art Village The unofficial page for UD Haggerty Art Village undergraduate and graduate students to stay connected and aware of opportunities and events!

The University of Dallas' Haggerty Art Village is located in a wooded setting isolated from the main campus buildings. The studio spaces are semi-private and are linked directly or in close proximity to well-equipped shop facilities with 24-hour access. The University of Dallas's graduate art curriculum pairs the study of visual art from historical, theoretical and critical perspectives with disci

plined studio practice in an effort to define in the student's mind a clear understanding of the work and its evolution. The University of Dallas graduate student can emerge from three years of vigorous study equipped with both the practical the theoretical knowledge to immerse him/herself in the art world and marketplace. Graduates from the University of Dallas are represented by galleries nationally, exhibit internationally, and teach in universities throughout the country.

“Answer: Me: This:”
MFA Thesis Exhibition, 2020

Statement:
I made this body of work with the goal to engage the viewer through beautiful but challenging imagery that embodies the theme of human transformation. I choose to paint the horse for its aesthetic qualities, its connection to human history, and its behavior and biology. Along with other animals and flora, the horse and the human become recognizable, recurring symbols in my paintings, guiding the viewer through my body of work. Through shifts in scale, color, and composition, figures and objects dominate in one piece, then recede in the next, reflecting the highs and lows and cyclical nature of spiritual, emotional, and psychological transformation. My hope is that the viewer is able to move through my work and experience it as a metaphor for their own personal growth.
