Buying locally is important, and reduces emissions in shipping, but it’s also important to buy in-season. Local, but out-of-season produce may have been grown in artificially heated greenhouses, or kept in chilled storage for months! Not only is this a massive consumption of energy, but the product isn’t as fresh.
