Alzheimer's Orange County Providing free care and support programs and education for those affected by Alzheimer's and dementia

Since 1982, Alzheimer’s Orange County has been Orange County’s center for Alzheimer’s resources. We are dedicated to providing quality care and support services to the thousands of residents of Orange County who are affected by Alzheimer’s disease or other related dementia, and also partnering with local researchers to populate clinical trials to help find a cure.

Last Friday, our incredible volunteer advocates and some of our AlzOC staff had the privilege of visiting elected officials right here in Orange County for the 2026 Alzheimer's Orange County Advocacy Day!

We met with the offices of Assemblymember Cottie Petrie-Norris, Assemblymember Laurie Davies, CA Senator Tony Strickland, CA Senator Steven Choi, CA Senator Catherine Blakespear, US Representative Mike Levin, US Representative Lou Correa, Assemblyman Phillip Chen, and Assemblyman Tri Ta.

Giving a voice to our dementia community and helping our elected officials understand the needs of older adults and their families living with dementia remains a top priority. Thank you to our local elected representatives for meeting with us and to all those who joined us in making this day possible.

There are many myths about Alzheimer’s disease and aging, but the facts can help us better understand and support one another. Dementia is not a normal part of aging, and resources are available.

Last week, our Memory Support Services department took center stage at our latest Lunch & Learn!

This incredible team is the heart of what we do at Alzheimer's Orange County. From support groups and care consultations to educational classes and more, Memory Support Services oversees the programs and services that directly touch the lives of individuals living with dementia and their caregivers every single day.

We got an inside look at the role each staff member in the department plays and learned a little more about the people behind the work. You really all are superheroes!

Memories in the Making, the signature art program of Alzheimer's Orange County, is a meaningful art program designed for individuals living with memory loss and dementia. Through creative expression, participants are given the opportunity to communicate, connect, and share their stories in a supportive and engaging environment.

This program can help:
• Encourage self-expression when words may be difficult
• Promote social connection and engagement
• Support a sense of purpose, identity, and accomplishment
• Create meaningful moments for participants, care partners, and staff

If you are interested in learning more about bringing Memories in the Making to your community, please email Lauren Weiss at [email protected].

Over the past two weeks, Alzheimer’s Orange County has been honored to connect with our community in meaningful ways. From meeting residents and community partners at the San Clemente Seniors Wellness Expo, to joining the City of Laguna Niguel’s Memorial Day remembrance honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, we are grateful for every opportunity to engage and serve.

We also continue to share important education and resources through our weekly education classes. For example, earlier this week Alzheimer's OC staff member and Gerontologist, Kim Bailey talked on the importance of talking with your doctor about memory and cognitive concerns. Memory changes can sometimes be caused by treatable conditions, so don’t hesitate to start the conversation.
