Relay For Life of Chapman University

Relay For Life of Chapman University Relay for Life of Chapman University is coming back bigger and better! Let's work together to create Relay for Life of Chapman University! THIS IS A FACT.

Relay For Life is the number one FUN-draiser for the American Cancer Society and is in local communities all over the world. Like our page to find out why! Relay for Life is the world's largest non-profit fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. It raises money for cancer research, patient services, education, and advocacy. It is all about one night, one community, one fight. For 24 hours, team

s of up to 15 people walk around a track (in this case, a defined perimeter of Chapman!) and raise hope, awareness, and money for the fight against cancer. There are ceremonies to celebrate our survivors, remember those we have lost to cancer, and fight back against this terrible disease. Together, as one community, we are taking a stand cancer. Think you are invincible? You're not. 1 in 3 women will get cancer, and 1 in 2 men will get cancer. Nearly everyone has been affected by cancer. Relay for Life is the perfect way to do something about it. We want YOU to join us! Please take the time to grab 10-15 of your closest friends, dorm neighbors, classmates, club members, or even strangers and make a team online. We ask each person to raise $100, but all it takes is 5 people donating $20! We will give you tips and tools to raise that money in no time. Go to: http://www.relayforlife.org/chapmanca. Don't wait! Do it today.

Breast cancer survivor Cynthia Lozano Vant Hul received a day of pampering thanks to Avon at Studio 1886 in Los Angeles this week, as part of National Cancer Survivors' Day this weekend.

After Cynthia finished breast cancer treatment nearly 20 years ago, she became a dedicated volunteer for the American Cancer Society, leading the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event, and found she loved helping others.

Avon continues their pampering for cancer patients through June 4, so call Studio 1886 at 213.746.2777 today to make an appointment.

Dr. Hannah Lui Park from the UCI School of Medicine, received a grant early in her career from the American Cancer Society. Funding from ACS moved her research forward, and she is an expert in breast cancer epidemiology and cancer biomarkers. She continues to uncover clues about cancer development and prevention by studying cancer genetics and epigenetics, environmental exposures, and lifestyle factors.

Thank you, Dr. Park, for your dedication to fighting cancer! You are saving lives.

Cancer survivors and volunteers are the life and breath of the American Cancer Society. Sometimes cancer survivors become volunteers, and then there is magic.

Grace Pugh served the world with grace and kindness. Her first breast cancer diagnosis came nearly 40 years ago, and shortly afterwards, she became a volunteer. In her 38-year span of volunteerism with American Cancer Society in Los Angeles and beyond, she encouraged other cancer survivors as she shared her story of breast cancer treatment and four-time recurrence.

She was a community leader and participant for many American Cancer Society Relay For Life events, for galas, for American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events. In her 19 years as an ACS Cancer Action Network volunteer, she influenced powerful legislators in LA County, Sacramento and Washington, DC about laws that would help cancer patients and public health. Grace shined brightest when she worked in her many volunteer roles.

Even during COVID, and even during a recurrence of breast cancer, Grace did her part to fight cancer. She raised thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network - ACS CAN Lights of Hope program during the pandemic last year, and lit up her yard and neighborhood with hundreds of luminaria dedicated to fighting cancer. Through her involvement in many community events, cancer education and legislative advocacy, Grace left her mark on her community that will light the way for years to come. Thank you, Grace. Today we salute you and remember you. You lived your life fighting cancer. We will continue to fight in your name.

As a six-year ovarian cancer survivor, Keri Toghia beat the odds. Today, she's "radiating positivity" at her cancer treatment, as she's done for six years. Treatments have changed for Keri over the years, and advances in cancer research continue to prove a positive thing for Keri and her family.

Also for six years, Keri served as a team captain, event leadership team member, and survivor at her local American Cancer Society Relay For Life. One of Keri's favorite things about the American Cancer Society is the research.

We're with you, Keri, and we salute you as a lover of all things Disney, a Space Mountain ju**ie, an avid Kings fan, and a stage 4B ovarian cancer survivor!

First Lady Pat Nixon was a life-long public servant who dedicated her life to helping others through volunteerism, including the American Cancer Society.

In her spirit, the Society is joining over 20 other charitable organizations in partnering with the Richard Nixon Foundation for a virtual celebration of the Pat Nixon Day of Service on Tuesday, March 16 at 12:30 PST, tune in here: https://fal.cn/3e3my

50 years ago, President Nixon signed the National Cancer Act, which cemented the nation's commitment to science, establishing a network of cancer centers, clinical trials and research. More people are surviving cancer than ever before.

Leslie Dugan heard the words, "You have cancer" from her doctor in 2020. Surgery, chemo and radiation followed. To Leslie, cancer research was immensely important.

Leslie joined a team for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in Orange County with her co-workers at Philadelphia Insurance Companies . TEAM PHLY participates in the Society's MSABC events throughout the country every October, but this year was special for Leslie, championing the cause as a survivor.

Now a dedicated American Cancer Society volunteer, Leslie is so grateful for TEAM PHLY in Mission Viejo and her colleagues who raised over $1,000 locally and $10,000 nationally to support cancer research and patient services. Kudos to cancer survivors and their teams for raising the bar.
