It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of another officer killed in the line of duty. On July 25, 2021, Kern County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the City of Wasco in regards to a shooting with the shooter now holding additional family members hostage.

The Kern County SO SWAT Team was activated and responded to the scene. As they were preparing to enter the residence, the shooter shot at the Deputies, injuring Deputy Campas and another Deputy. Both were rushed to a local hospital where Deputy Campas succumbed to his injuries. The shooter was later taken into custody after another exchange of gunfire with SWAT Officers.

Deputy Campas is a 5 year veteran of the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. He held various assignments including patrol, recruit training officer, SWAT and held a range assignment where he provided fi****ms training and mentoring to all departmental armed staff. Deputy Campas served as a United States Marine prior to being employed with the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Campas leaves behind his spouse and 3 children ages 6, 9 and 13. The Campas family will be in need of support as they grieve their tragic loss and begin to move forward after adjusting to the loss of their beloved husband and father.

Please help us support the Campas family by donating any amount you can afford. All donations go directly to the Campas family.

Your help and assistance is truly appreciated!

Kern County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Phillip Campas was tragically killed in the line of duty in an attempt to suppress an active-shooter that had executed family members and was holding additional family hostage.
