Kesem is a nationwide community dedicated to supporting children though and beyond a parent's cancer. Kesem operates at more than 130 chapters coast-to-coast.

Kesem is a diverse community led by passionate and empathetic college students working to ensure that children facing the challenges of a parent’s cancer have space, connection, and support to rediscover the joys of childhood. Our mission is to support children through and beyond their parent’s cancer with free, fun-filled creative programs and a lasting community. Kesem at UC Irvine was founded i

n 2013 and supports children in the Irvine community by providing Camp Kesem, a free week-long summer camp experience, and year-round Through and Beyond support services. Our chapter is operated by 30 student volunteers and serves 60 campers ages 6-18 per year. Its programs and services are all funded by generous donations from individuals, foundations, and corporate partners. Kesem is a federally registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.

As integral members of our community, nurses at are responsible for managing any first-aid and medical situations that arise and documenting and distributing medications to campers, student leaders, and staff while onsite.

Beyond their professional responsibilities, our nurses are encouraged to join us for camp games and activities, so they can use their skills to make a difference, and have a whole lot of that indescribable Kesem fun.
