wishes you a blessed Nowruz - the traditional celebration of spring and the New Year in Afghanistan. On this first day of Spring and in anticipation of the International Day of Nowruz tomorrow, March 21, may the renewal it welcomes be felt in your own life, in the world around you, and in the lives and future of the people of Afghanistan! We echo U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's call that Nowruz give us an opportunity to "reflect on the beauty of nature, the promise of Spring, and the power of culture to build peace."

"On this International Day of Nowruz, I offer my best wishes to those who celebrate, and express hope that all people can use the occasion to reflect on the beauty of nature, the promise of Spring and the power of culture to build peace "

rejoices at the hopeful progress being made by some remarkable young women, some of whom we were honored to meet in Laguna Beach (see posts below from late February, 2012), and the incredible support they are receiving from AFCECO in Kabul. Thanks to Mariam Atash Nawabi for posting this clip! http://video.msnbc.msn.com/nightly-news/49249064 #49249064
