During the recent evacuations, one mother was preparing to sleep in her car with her two teenage children after shelters reached capacity. Because of real time coordination between our 2-1-1 Orange County (211OC) helpline and local emergency partners, she and her children were placed in temporary housing that same night. Stories like this show why a coordinated community response matters.
More than 70,000 of our neighbors across Garden Grove, Stanton, Westminster, Cypress, Anaheim, and Buena Park were affected by the recent chemical emergency.
Orange County United Way remains active in the ongoing response efforts. While evacuation orders have lifted, many families and small businesses are still facing real hardship — from lost wages and childcare disruptions to health related expenses and temporary displacement. To support those facing challenging times, we launched the OC Community Resilience Fund.
💛 Here’s what your support has already helped make possible:
• A 60% call surge to our 211OC helpline met with rapid response
• 211OC selected as the trusted local partner for Airbnb’s Emergency Housing Support Program
• 21 displaced families — including 57 adults, 35 children, 1 infant, and 14 pets — connected to safe temporary housing
A huge shout out to our partner Niagara Bottling for taking quick action in delivering water to local emergency shelters.
But recovery doesn’t end when evacuation orders do. Families still need help — and your donation can provide it.
🫶 The OC Community Resilience Fund supports:
• Emergency financial assistance
• Groceries and household essentials
• Transportation and childcare support
• Prescription and health related expenses
• Temporary housing and utility assistance
We’re continuing to work with local leaders, emergency responders, nonprofits, businesses, and residents to ensure resources reach those who need them most.
