High School Youth Action Team

High School Youth Action Team The program consists of student representatives from six Irvine high schools.

The High School Youth Action Team (HSYAT) provides high school students the opportunity to participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of services for their peers. HSYAT staff organize teen activities and represent their peers at various community groups. The program’s focus is around the following three objectives:

Youth Leadership: To engage youth in leadership roles within th

e community. Community Services: To increase youth participation in activities that benefit the entire community. Social-Recreational: To engage youth in safe and appealing social-recreational activities. The City of Irvine High School Youth Action Team offers numerous volunteer opportunities throughout the school year. HSYAT has volunteers projects working with children, seniors, environment, animals, people with disabilities, special events, community projects, and numerous local organizations and non-profits. Volunteering with HSYAT is an excellent way to accrue VOLUNTEER HOURS for school requirements. Registration is now open for Online Summer Teen Volunteer Camp!

This summer volunteer and educational program provides enrichment opportunities for teens to contribute to their community. Teens develop life skills through at-home service projects, team builders, speakers addressing teen issues, and guest speakers from local non-profits. Earn up to 20 community service hours per session completing volunteer projects and attending online presentations. Each session is different and meets online Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday between 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Additional hours required to complete volunteer projects from home. Includes Letter of Completion, if needing service hour verification. Ages 13-18 (High School Students Only)

Huge cheers to our female YAT staff who presented to 100 middle school girls yesterday at the Middle School Program Galentine’s Self Empowerment Day! This event included discussions on self care, acceptance, and team-building, a female-orientated self-defense class, and movie on female empowerment. The goal was to bring students together, build relationships with peers and positive role models, and take away knowledge and skills to navigate challenging pre-teen and teen years. Good job to everyone who planned and attended this amazing event!

Check out some photos from YAT’s Summer Teen Volunteer Camp. Over 1,500 hours of community service completed so far this summer!! We have volunteered with many local organizations including OC Food Bank, Irvine Ranch Conservancy, Child Creativity Lab, Solutions for Urban Agriculture, Think Together, Pacific Marine Mammal Center, Bolsa Chica Wetlands, 2/11 Marines, and more!
