August was a wrap on a big summer for TGR Foundation.

Our TGR Learning Labs in Anaheim and Philadelphia kept students hands-on and engaged all season. Philadelphia marked a full year of the Smilow Woodland TGR Learning Lab, Earl Woods Scholars celebrated with summer socials across the country, and our inaugural Creative Trades Lab with Otis College of Art and Design brought career-connected learning to life.

Different cities, different programs, same summer: learning, connecting and building community.

Now we're looking ahead to a new school year and the return of fall programming at our TGR Learning Labs, with more opportunities for students to learn, explore and discover what's possible.

Over the weekend, students, families, partners and community members came together at the Smilow Woodland TGR Learning Lab to celebrate “It’s Fun to Be One: Celebrating One Year of Driving Dreams Together.”

The celebration brought the community together for interactive activities, food, giveaways, a community resource fair, registration opportunities and a chance to experience all that the Lab has to offer.

We’re grateful to everyone who has helped make this first year possible and excited for what’s ahead as we continue creating opportunities for young people in Philadelphia.

30 years ago today, Tiger Woods made his first professional start.

Just months later, on November 18, 1996, Tiger and his parents, Earl and Tida, founded TGR Foundation, inspired by their family motto “share and care.”

While Tiger’s professional career was beginning, so was another chapter, one focused on creating opportunities for young people through education.

Thirty years later, TGR Foundation has served more than 217,000 young people through the TGR Learning Labs and signature education programs.

At the inaugural Creative Trades Lab, 24 L.A. County high school students got hands-on experience in woodworking, metal fabrication and design thinking while exploring pathways into the creative economy.

In partnership with Otis College of Art and Design and with support from Harbor Freight Tools for Schools, students worked alongside instructors and industry mentors to build technical skills, collaborate and create outdoor furniture for the future TGR Learning Lab Los Angeles at Lulu’s Place.

The program may be over, but the projects students created will become part of a space designed for future generations of learners.

“Without this place, I don’t know where I would be.”

For Kenny, the TGR Learning Lab Anaheim was a place to explore engineering, multimedia and golf, build lifelong friendships and experience opportunities he never expected. Years later, he returned as a volunteer to give back to the place that had given him so much.

Today, Kenny is a registered nurse and clinical instructor helping prepare the next generation of nursing students.

Members of our Smilow Woodland TGR Learning Lab spent the day at Comcast, gaining hands-on experience, exploring careers and connecting with professionals across the company.

During the visit, students toured Comcast’s Philadelphia offices and gained insight into how technology helps shape the customer experience. They also put their creativity and problem-solving skills to work during an engineering challenge led by technologists and engineers at the company.

The experience continued with a networking lunch, where students connected with employees from a variety of departments, asked questions about their career journeys and learned about the many pathways that can lead to opportunities in technology and beyond.

Opportunities like this help students connect classroom learning to real-world careers while expanding their understanding of what’s possible for their future.
