Not sure who to call when something happens in your neighborhood? Knowing which number to call can save time and get you the right help faster. Here's a quick guide from the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.
Call for an emergency - 911
An immediate threat to life or property or a medical emergency.
• A vehicle crashed and I think someone is hurt.
• I'm seeing or hearing an active fight or possible domestic violence incident.
• Someone I donʼt know is at the front door trying to get in.
Non-emergency line - (503) 823-3333
You need police, fire, or ambulance — but there is no immediate threat.
• Someone is illegally parked or abandoned their vehicle on the road/sidewalk.
• Thereʼs a loud party next door after 11 p.m. on a weeknight.

A crime already happened, thereʼs no suspect, and no one needs to be dispatched.
• My bike was stolen overnight.
• A package was taken from my porch.
• Thereʼs graffiti on the side of our building.
NOTE: This system does not replace 911 and should not be used for in-progress crimes or when the suspect is known.
