Gary is back from his surgery to stitch up his face again! It went very well! Praying for a successful recovery!

It's not everyday we get to witness a true miracle but last weekend we did! This baby was found by a local couple stuck inside their dryer vent. And the dryer was running! They'd been telling their landlord for a while about the holes under the house and that stray cats were taking up residence. He was supposed to fix it but never did. And then this happened. When they pulled him out they described him as frothing at the mouth. By the time they got him to us, he wasn't doing that anymore but his legs were shaking and he was unable to support himself. We took his temperature - 94 degrees. That is extremely low for a cat. He was trying to die. So, we got him on a heated mat with hot water bottles all around him. Every 30 mins or so, we checked his temperature and watched it slowely creep back up to normal! And what do you know, a few hours of resting and being in a quiet dark environment and we were pleasantly surprised the next time we checked he was up and had eaten his food!! This boy is a true miracle. The couple who found him came back the next day to see how he was doing and plan to adopt him as an indoor cat when he is ready. And they are still trying to get the holes fixed under the house so an accident like this doesn't happen again!

Gary is a stray cat that was found in Watseka with a large abscess on the side of his face. Sometimes these are from a bad tooth, but Gary's teeth look great! His was simply from getting into a fight living outdoors. Another cat either scratched or bit him. The abscess was full of puss and ended up bursting! We had it cleaned out and sewed up once when he was neutered however it came open again. So, back to the vet he went again today! They're keeping him overnight at Lowell Animal Hospital where they'll stitch it up again and monitor him. The estimate is between $700 - $900. Chip & Lumiere were adopted today!! We're here at the shelter until 5pm and there are more kittens to choose from!
