A "Happy Holidays" classic article for all of the policy and polling wonks out there. The major takeaways for the Happy Holidays vs. Merry Christmas debate are: don't be a jerk, and Die Hard isn't really a Christmas movie. Seems simple, right?

PPP’s annual holidays poll finds that it’s really only Trump voters who get offended about the ‘Merry Christmas vs. Happy Holidays’ debate. 23% of Trump voters say they’re offended by the phrase ‘Happy Holidays,’ while only 3% of Clinton voters say they’re offended by the phrase ‘M...

A nice seasonal opinion piece for you all on the Norwegian Posten ad and the accusations of it sexualizing Christmas.

Form the article: "The truth is that Christmas and Santa have been sexualised for years already, and few people have batted an eye. Sexy Santa outfits are standard fare for women at this time of year. Over the last few decades, celebs of every ilk and era, from Marilyn Monroe to Love Island’s Maura Higgins, have donned the skimpiest of Santa costumes. What about Christmas classics such as “Santa Baby” and “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus”? Weren’t they sexualising Christmas decades before Posten’s ad came along?" Nobody seems to object to the Rockettes on moral grounds.

It’s not Harry kissing Santa that’s distasteful, but the echoes of the historical villainisation of gay male sexuality that reverberate through the objections to this ad

Too often people in this country use "celebrating their heritage" as a cover and excuse for racist and nationalist propaganda. There is so much more to heritage that can be celebrated without harming or threatening others. We have to always acknowledge our past but there are things to learn as well. Here is a cute folk story that will resonate with our descendants of Finnish colonizers; a reasonable way to celebrate one's heritage:

A new animated short film, "Fox Fires," tells the ancient Finnish myth about the creation of the Northern Lights.

From the website linked below:
"The Bad River Head Start, with funding from the Wisconsin DPI, were given the opportunity to produce and publish books for use in their immersion classrooms.

The stories were written by the Bad River Language Trainees, and highlight people and places in Bad River.

Our dream is that all of our children will grow up hearing and speaking our language, Ojibwemowin.

The day after National Day of Mourning/Thanksgiving has been celebrated as Buy Nothing Day since the early 1990's, but have you heard of a Buy Nothing Group? This site explains a bit about its purpose and setting one up. However, Buy Nothing Groups do not need to be part of an official organization; they can be as simple as a clothing swap or a social media page where local people can connect, share, and "buy nothing, get everything".

Have questions about the Buy Nothing Project? This page is frequently updated with new answers!
