Backpack Impact

Backpack Impact Impacting childrens' lives by meeting basic needs. Currently we’re focused only on weekends but would eventually like to include school holidays as well.

Each child that comes through the doors of Arcadia Valley Elementary has access to breakfast and lunch during school, though the same cannot be said for the weekends. The goal of Backpack Impact is to help ensure that every child has access to food when school is not in session by sending home food using the child's backpack. Every Arcadia Valley Elementary student will be eligible to participate.

Families that opt to participate in the Backpack Impact program will receive two meals for each day school is not in session (weekend) for each participating elementary age child in that home. For a typical two day weekend, the child’s teacher will be given four meals on Friday morning to discreetly place in the backpack of the participating child. The teacher will place the food in the child’s backpack during their plan period (while the students are in special class). Volunteers will package the meals on Thursday afternoon/evening. Storage of the food will be off-site until the day of distribution. Students will be given a backpack if they are in need of one. Food will be packed in a plastic grocery bag and tied. There will be two breakfast items, two lunch items, two dinner items, and two snack items. These are items that are individually packaged, easy to prepare, fairly nutritious, and light in weight (limit on cans).

Vintage Backpack Impact 😀

This is the 14th year of operation. This summer Backpack Impact was planned to transition out of our hands to an organization.

Although we have never been without massive support of the community, this program has grown much bigger than just a couple of younger versions of ourselves dreaming around the table about how to meet basic needs.

Summer came and the transition did not happen as planned. Their program was not ready for this undertaking.

We have cut many things to allow for our families and demanding/rewarding careers but feeding kids just cannot be something we cut.

The failed transition has created space for us to reimagine how to sustain this program. We will be sharing details of ways to jump on board to help us feed students.

We are still here and dreaming. Stay tuned and LOVE big. ✌🏻

**Also: Social media for this program was suspended years ago. We were just trying to keep our heads above water and had to cut all but getting food to kids. We are back to celebrate through this platform.

Your local school board approved the use of the Community Eligibility Provision Program for the Elementary School this year! This will be available for all Elementary School students whether in the Virtual Learning Program or On Campus.

It’s a beautiful Friday in Arcadia Valley, MO!

Just a reminder that we are maintaining our routine of distributing food packs on Fridays.

Rather than using the student’s own backpack, we are using the “loop” at the elementary to get food packs to families as they pick up lunch and breakfast from the school.
