π HARPER LAKE: KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR PURPLE LOOSESTRIFE! π
It may look beautiful, but purple loosestrife is an invasive plant that can quickly take over our shorelines and wetlands. Once established, it can be difficult to control.
πΏ WHY SHOULD WE CARE?
π« Habitat Takeover β Crowds out native plants and can form dense stands.
π¦ Less Wildlife Habitat β Reduces important food sources, nesting areas and shelter for birds, amphibians and other native wildlife.
π§ Impacts Water Flow β Dense growth can choke shallow waterways, ditches and drains and contribute to localized flooding.
π SPOT IT? Look for tall plants with distinctive spikes of bright purple flowers, particularly along wet areas and shorelines.
Our lake is a shared treasure. π By learning to recognize invasive plants and reporting them when we see them, we can all help protect Harper Lakeβs natural beauty and healthy ecosystem. PLM, the company the handles our aquatic w**d control, is also able to treat this highly invasive plant.
π See it. Identify it. Report it to a member of the board. Help protect Harper Lake.
