Understanding Climate Emotions in Children & Supporting Them with Tools and Community Resources

Recording of Color Your School Green webinar on May 27, 2026 about the growing issue of climate emotions among children, presenting current insights into how youth are emotionally affected by climate change. Especially intended for educators, counselors, administrators, and anyone who works with or supports young people.

Attendees learned strategies from professional counselors to help children understand their emotions and engage constructively with climate challenges, fostering resilience and hope.

Color Irondequoit Green has a new initiative: Grow a Row Irondequoit! Grow a Row is a new community project encouraging local gardeners to grow extra produce to help support neighbors experiencing food insecurity. You grow it, and we'll bring it to the Irondequoit Community Cupboard!

WBI has launched a petition asking that the town move to adopt universal 25 MPH speed limits on all town-controlled roads. We need to make our streets safer for kids, for older adults, for bikers, and for all road users, including those behind the wheel! For clarification: many major roadways and highways in town are controlled by the county or the state, but the town controls speeds for most others. The state allows towns to adopt 25 MPH speed limits on town roads, but towns must follow a number of steps first. Read more at the petition link, and sign on if you agree.

No Rate Hikes Block Party
Sunday, May 31, 12:00PM - 3:00PM

Rochester Energy Democracy (RED) is throwing a party across the street from RG&E's (Rochester Gas & Electric) office in Washington Sq Park. RG&E asked for a 34% increase to our utility to rates last year, and the Public Service Commission (PSC) is yet to make a decision that is due this spring. We hope they'll make the right decision.

But just in case they think we forgot about our sky-high utility bills, we're making some noise, we're shouting from the rooftops, we're putting on our shorts one leg at a time, and we're talking to our neighbors.

We hope you'll join us May 31st from 12PM - 3PM. We will kick off the event with a press conference, and after that we'll have yard games and entertainment to enjoy. Bring a few kid friendly drinks and your mom's casserole, and we'll have a lovely time!

The Third Act Rochester crew is tabling and speaking the event. We hope to see you there!

Among other things, we'll be discussing Reconnect Rochester's new(ish) multimodal advocacy toolkit, which you can find at the link below, and which can be used to inform our strategy and tactics in pursuit of the goal of making our streets safer for kids, and everyone else, too!
