EAA Chapter 309

The EAA 309 Board of Directors request your help in welcoming our new Young Eagle coordinator, Kerry Marie Targia.
Kerry has been an EAA member since 2024 and is usually one of the first faces our Young Eagles encounter as they get signed in and come up with a “call sign” for their flight.
She was instrumental in the Hurricane Helene relief effort in Statesville, acting as chief medical liaison and medical supply coordinator.
In 2025, she started flight training in a Cessna 150 and she recently passed her written exam with a test score of 85!!!
In July 2026, she attended her first AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI and now plans on attending the EAA Leadership Academy, coming up in 2 weeks.
Kerry says “My favorite part of Young Eagles is seeing the kids get out of the planes after their first flight, being so excited, and wanting to run over to me to share the pictures they took or tell me what they saw from the sky.”
Kerry’s first Young Eagle Rally as coordinator, will be this coming Saturday, October 17th, starting at 9am, at the Lincoln County Airport.

😡🤬 And just like that, the weather throws us a curveball.
Yes, it has turned out to be nice weather this morning.
We try our best to make wise decisions with the information we have on our trusted weather apps.
And then a day like today happens.
It’s frustrating, for sure.
We love flying as much as we love sharing it with new Young Eagles.
So hopefully you can give us a pass on this one and come see us next month.

Good Evening Young Eagles and families.
One of the many things you will learn when you are becoming a pilot is how to read the weather and try to predict it.
The weather dictates everything we do in an airplane and how it flies.

For the safety of our pilots and you the students, we are canceling our Young Eagle event at Lincolnton tomorrow 9/19.
I know we are all disappointed about this decision.

A pilot is always learning, so take this opportunity to watch some Sporty’s videos and study some weather. Ground school makes us all better pilots. When you take flying lessons, you are studying to become a “VFR pilot”.
Here’s some Homework (leave your answers in the comments. Correct answers will be entered into a drawing for a prize at the October rally) :

1. What does VFR stand for?
2. What are the requirements for VFR flight?
3. What does IFR stand for?

Today’s FLY-IN prep went great !!!

We arrived early, got the hanger cleaned out, the airport staff blew off the lower parking lot for our guests, we hung our 6‘ x 10‘ American flag, we got our sail flags ready for display, the 309 tables are assembled and ready to be staged, the Civil Air Patrol showed up with their tables, the EZ-UPs are ready, the shuttle tractor has been delivered, planes have been moved, trash cans are ready, raffle prizes organized and the porta-potties are fresh !!!
I even did some grass prep for the hot air balloon AND the powered parachute guys!!!
In 12 hours, the final touches will be put together & organized. In just less than 14 hours, the volunteers start coming in….and then the event!!!

FABULOUS news!!!

🌮WE’RE ADDING A TACO TRUCK to our Saturday Fly-In, Drive-In, Ride-In !!!
“Latin Stop” will be setting up just before lunch time!!!🌮
🤪Man I love Hispanic food…the margaritas will have to wait until Saturday night 🍹 😩👎🏾

Ok 309r’s!
This is where I humbly ask for your help. PRETTY PLEASE !!!
We have 9 stations at the event, needing 13 volunteers at any given moment.
PLUS, we need random roamers to guide the public, answer questions, and greet everyone.
I’d like to have much more than that, so we can rotate in & out. That way folks can get a break during the day.
I will attach an event map, with the volunteer stations marked with BLUE X’s (you’ll have to zoom in) =
