Hello followers! My son is graduating this year so I'm putting off the last semester of this class to focus on him b4 his big day. We will be back but will have a different look as it won't be history. Changing up for a couple years to a different subject. We'll see you in Fall of 2025!!!

A "Civil War Christmas" based off of journals written at the home place during the war. We blacksmithed tinsel (icicle) ornaments with Jamie. Decorated a period tree with Lee Anne. Made peanut chocolate and sorghum popcorn balls. At the end, we sang "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" which was written during the Civil War and passed out simple gifts of fruit and nuts.

Christopher Werner was probably the most prolific decorative blacksmith in Charleston during the antebellum era. He went from making horseshoes to decorative gates and sign hangers. In the 20th century, Philip Simmons continued to keep the art of blacksmithing alive. He trained many so that it would continue on after his death. The South Carolina Blacksmith Guild honors his name in remembrance and is now called the Philip Simmons Artist Blacksmith Guild. Many blacksmiths currently are members of this guild.
