Today’s Fishing with Kids & Parents program was an overwhelming success.

I want to sincerely thank William Alexander, an avid fisherman who traveled from Conroe, Texas, to help assist the Donald Brown Developmental League with today’s fishing experience. His knowledge, patience, and willingness to serve helped make this event meaningful for so many children and families.

Today’s program hosted just under 50 kiddos who had the opportunity to learn how to fish in a safe, positive, and family-centered environment.

I also want to thank Sergeant James Lambert and another one of his officer colleagues for stopping in to volunteer during their time with us. They helped kids learn how to fish and engaged with parents and kiddos in ways that helped build positive relationships. We are so grateful they were able to stop by and be part of today’s event.

I also want to thank The Scoop for coming out and supporting this event.

A special thank you to our food sponsor, Faychelle’s Unique Creations, for sponsoring the food and drinks for today’s community outreach opportunity.

I would also like to thank Mrs. Shanta Clark-Davis of Ellison Davis Counseling and Wellness Group, PLLC, for being present and supporting a positive experience for our children and families.

Thank you to community member Ms. Holly Barber and my wife, Samantha Brown, for helping with check-in and being part of the positive fishing experience with the kiddos.

Today was full of smiles, laughter, learning, and some really big catches.

🎣 Roston Veal II caught a 4-pound catfish.

🎣 Another young man caught a 3-pound bass.

🎣 Kids caught fish throughout the day, including catfish, bass, bluegill, sunfish, and perch.

🎣 We even had parents come out and fish for the first time.

Our kids learned how to bait a hook using hot dogs, how to cast and retrieve, and we also discussed the importance of water safety. The kids had a phenomenal time, and the parents had a great time as well.

One of the most meaningful parts of the day was watching dads not only interact with their own children, but also help other kiddos learn how to fish. It was also amazing to see mothers come out, laugh, fish, learn, and enjoy the experience with their children.

One mom shared that she had been wanting to get her children involved in fishing, and when she saw this opportunity, she knew it was perfect. Her children were able to come out, learn how to fish, practice what they learned, and catch fish. One young lady caught a large catfish during her first time fishing, and I believe she may be a fisherwoman for life.

This is why the Donald Brown Developmental League exists — to create positive touch points for children, families, and communities.

We are looking for businesses, sponsors, and community partners who would like to help support future Fishing with Kids & Parents program opportunities. If you know of a business that supports sponsorships, partnerships, youth programs, family engagement, or community outreach, please drop their name in the comments or connect them with us.

We will be sharing more pictures and videos from today’s event over time.

Thank you to everyone who came out, volunteered, supported, sponsored, encouraged, and helped make today everything it was meant to be.

Today was meaningful. Today was fun. Today was community.

There are moments in life that remind you why your work matters.

As I was preparing for a speaking engagement, I heard someone say, “Dr. Brown, hey, do you remember me?” It was Edwin, one of my former students.

Edwin shared that he is doing well, has been with his company for the past 10 years, and is continuing to make a positive impact through his work. I cannot fully express how proud I am of his journey.

It is always a blessing to run into people you once had the opportunity to pour into and see them growing, working, leading, and staying positively connected in the community they serve.

Edwin, congratulations to you. I am proud of the man you have become and grateful that our paths crossed again. Keep going. Keep growing. Keep making a difference.

To anyone reading this, never underestimate the power of speaking life into someone else. Whether it is a child, a teenager, a young adult, a new employee, or someone simply walking through a hard season, your words, your encouragement, and your belief in them can make a lasting difference.

We need more people who are willing to lead, support, encourage, and help others see what is possible.

I am grateful to be Dr. Motivate, and I thank God for every opportunity to serve in schools, businesses, public spaces, and workplaces across our communities. Every space matters because people matter.

Always remember: you matter, people matter, and your positive impact can help change the trajectory of someone’s life.

What is one piece of encouragement someone gave you that stayed with you over the years?

To God be all the glory.
