Just a little note to tell you of our status as of the start of a new year...
1) We are looking for a fiscal agent to act as a type of sponsor for our first year of operations, so we might have a way to start accepting donations. Once we have a year of official operations under our belts we will be able to apply for our own independent tax id # under 501c3 status.
2) We are working on a brochure, mostly for ourselves but also for distribution. We're still hashing out the details of things like a mission statement, core values and services, and a proper name.
3) We are open to the possibility of a (really) temporary space in which to conduct a few basic activities. Maybe we can find a church or something willing to lend us some space once in a while until we can find the space and funds to rent.
4) One of the first things we could try to do is start a newsletter. This could be distributed electronically, but many of our potential audience don't have technology skills or access. So, it should be hard copy in the main. This lends itself to its own set of difficulties. Printing and distribution costs, primarily. In this newsletter we could cover industry wide mental health care news, also state and local news, especially concerning the peer support and recovery movements. This year would be heavily laden with news with regard to the health care regional redesign and discussions of the latest edition of the DSM. We could also include personal testimonials of our own members describing the road to wellness and whole health.
Please help us out by sharing our posts and /or links to help raise public awareness of our existence and efforts to organize. Thanks!
