One Box Challenge

A monthly shopping challenge for local Johnson County charities. Imagine the impact if we all just donated one box!

Wow! When it is 90 degrees out it can be difficult to think about winter gloves and socks. However, if history has taught us anything 😉 it will be cold soon enough and we want to help vulnerable members of our community be prepared. Amazon has insulated winter gloves for $10 and Costco has gloves on sale this week (additional $3 off). We will also accept gently used gloves and mittens. Perhaps you found that missing pair from last season after you bought the new pair. Maybe your kiddos are not loosing their gloves six times each season and you can share a pair with One Box this year. Do you have quality ski gloves from your skiing era, but no longer ski? One Box can make sure they see they light of day this winter and are put to good use! All month long we are collecting socks and gloves for children, women and men. Pictured is what history has taught us......

Why donate socks?.....
Clean dry socks help prevent blisters, fungal infections, skin breakdown, and other potentially debilitating conditions. This is especially true for people walking long distances or without access to laundry. Can you donate a pair to help someone take their next step with confidence?

I reached into my sock drawer in the dim morning light and without a thought grabbed a clean pair of socks as part of my regular morning routine. I took a picture of my sock drawer to use for today's post. Standing there in front of my dresser I thought how grateful I should be to even have a "sock drawer" let alone the abundance of socks inside. Admittedly, I rarely give my socks a second thought, but not having them probably makes far too many of your thoughts be about them. Take moment to think about how uncomfortable your day would be today if you had no socks. What if your socks were wet or dirty and causing sores, but taking them off would be far more painful? If you have a whole drawer dedicated to socks, perhaps you can spare a pair for someone in our community who has had to think about socks too many times today. Although we would like to collect an abundance of new unworn socks, we will also take like new pairs that are in excellent condition. Let's get collecting!

Did you know...
That socks are one of the most common requests at shelters? Seems like the least we could do is help provide clean and dry socks to this vulnerable population. Can you join us in this challenge?

DIAPER totals 🥁🥁🥁
You marvelous, kind and generous pillars of our community! You donated 7,823 diapers! Thanks to some very benevolent donors in the last week we were able to surpass our previous total of 7,138. I must admit that I was worried as we approached the end of the month. I know everything is costing everyone more these days and I would have understood why we were not able to deliver as many as we had previously, even with our growing numbers. However, YOU ALL DID IT!!!! YOU rallied! YOU found it in your hearts and in your budgets! YOU made a difference! YOU demonstrated a strength in numbers that cannot be denied! YOU reached deep down past the hurt and sadness of this September's losses and brought forth a light and love to those who face great challenges in our community every day. Together we rose to the Challenge! Every single one of you matter and we could not have done this without YOU! Thank you from the bottom of my heart and from every baby bottom you provided comfort to. Pictured is load #4. Now, onto the next Challenge!

Socks & Gloves
New and gently used socks and gloves for children, women, and men.
Donations will be distributed to Shelter House, DVIP, Open Heartland and Neighborhood Centers of Johnson County.

Two days left to rise to the challenge. Are you up for it? What is missing from this changing table? Can you help? Next month's challenge will be a much lower cost and possibly a no cost challenge for some. Can you put a little more toward the September Challenge?

Running errands today? Can you add a box of diapers to your cart? We are still in need of another 730 diapers to match the number of diapers we collected last time. Can we meet this challenge? Say it out loud with me...."YES WE CAN!" Let's rise to this difficult challenge for all those who rise each morning without the resources they need to keep their babies clean and dry with basic necessities like diapers. I am willing to do an extra porch pick up this Tuesday if there is anyone out there who would still like to help, but can't drop off. DM me and I will be there! Let's flex our collective muscle and reach this goal! Every bit helps!

1,494 in the 2nd trip to Open Heartland this week. This may look like a lot of diapers, but the need far surpasses this. Last time we collected diapers we were able to donate 7,138. Please help us pass this bar with this month's challenge!!!! We are about a thousand short of that goal. Still 5 days left in September. WE CAN DO IT, with your help!!!
