Hey there, Fab Lab supporters! Just a quick note for anyone looking for some woodshop equipment! We have had two different woodshops donated to the Fab Lab in the past six months, and have lots of extra equipment for sale right now!

All of the equipment is older and well used, but all were wonderfully cared for and in solid working condition. My plan is to get them into good homes where they will be used, instead of having to retire them to the great metal pile in the sky.

As of right now we have a 15 inch planer, a joiner, a bandsaw, several sharpening wheels, polishing wheels, a tablesaw, a drill press, some tabletop belt sanders and a full standalone beltsander, a bed sander, and lots of attachments and accessories for these tools.

We only have until the end of May to sell these, because they are in the classroom and our summer camps are starting in early June. If you know anyone who might want some equipment, have them reach out (email is best.) email [email protected] and we can set up a time to check out the tools!

Ok, I know we are all catching out breath from the holidays and there is a lot going on, but here is some good news for you! Iowa City Fab Lab Summer Camps are now OPEN FOR REGISTRATION!

We have a full camp list starting June 8th and going all the way to August 21st! With the 4th of July on a Saturday, we have 11 full weeks of camp, Monday through Friday.

Whether you sign up for one camp one time, or the full day option with early drop and late pickup, we have you covered for the whole summer! With small camp sizes of only 20 kids per camp, weeks can sell out quickly!

We are introducing 2 new camps this year, Space Camp (not that one), and Minecraft Mazes! Bringing back other popular camps like robotics, Dungeons & Dragons, and Animation, we have a total of 14 different week long experiences packed into one summer!

Dear FedEx,

I waited for our package to arrive all day today. Then I got an email saying that they had tried to deliver but 'missed us'. I was sitting in view of the door, having missed the package the day before and after Christmas. I can assure you no one came up to the door or rang the doorbell. Check the time stamps for the ring and the email.

I don't mind if I miss a package due to not being there, but being told I missed a package when I was here specifically watching for it is pretty disappointing. Especially since the original date was supposed to be the 9th of the month.

I also did not somehow miss the doorbell. It has not been rung at all today even if I was not directly in view. Do better.

It is getting to be spooky season at the Fab Lab. With a little work on the laser cutter, some glue, some paint, and some waterproofing, we have made a Fab Lab guardian!

Thanks to a little help from Marsha Cheyney, Reedin C. and Tim, we got it put together and up!

What should we name it? Charlotte is out. Too derivative.

We still have some stuff left from our storage purge of a few weeks ago. I have donated some stuff and relocated other stuff, but we still have some cool stuff left! Rather then throw everything away, I have posted here and on Freecycle that from 10am to 4pm tomorrow (Monday, October 13th) I will be opening the classroom door and letting people rummage around for free stuff!

This is ONLY stuff in the classroom, and some of the stuff in the classroom is there because it belongs in the classroom (long tables, storage, whiteboard, TV, etc), but if you want it and it is available to take, you can take it home and make it yours! We have some square tables, storage bins, electronics (usually not working), various types of cords, books and magazines, and office supplies to name a few items.

So stop by tomorrow and get some stuff!

Thank you all for a great weekend!

While we didn't sell off everything in our sale, (and didn't expect to), we re-homed so many great things that were going to waste for lack of caring hands and great projects! We raised over $1000 this weekend, and have a lot of things left! We will be reaching out to other non-profits who may benefit from some of it, and selling more individually things like spare office chairs, tables, and other large items that didn't have time to find new homes.

It was a beautiful day for a sale, with just a bit of rain early on. We met some great new people and are working on some new projects and ideas that came out of Saturday's efforts. Two of the ones we want to work on quickly are a series of Lego Days (hopefully), and a new Cosplay Group which will meet at least monthly, but maybe more often since it is close to spooky time! We also are working on an embroidery meet up, or possibly a embroidery club!

Speaking of Clubs, if you are into something and want to host a club, we will host you monthly for FREE! Let us know if you have an existing group, or want to start one! Email [email protected] and I can get started ironing out the details!

Thank you so much, everyone who supported us with our sell-off event. We can now see the floors of all of our storage spaces! Time to start creating more content for Iowa City!
